totally agree with you on the criticism of the book. it’s showing the situation SO realistically. you’re supposed to start out being charmed by Ryle, no one enters these relationships knowing how toxic it’s going to be.

I completely understand the controversy from this film but as a Domestic Violence Educator, this movie just lacked the appropriate dv education. It felt more like feeding into the love triangle/romance plot which is fine but i felt it makes sense why Blake and Justin were just promoting it in different ways. The movie served as a basic intro to the conversation of DV but for a two hour film, it could have been executed more differently to emphasize DV ): but this is just me in my job role as I watched the movie to see how it captured DV. But I know folks say the book captures DV better. I would recommend to anyone who wants to read a book that accurately reflects DV to read “Long Shot” by Kennedy Ryan!

I work at a cinema and it’s been so fun to see all the bookish people come out to watch this film💓 I was sceptical about the film but I thought it was beautifully done. I also really appreciate how Justin Baldoni has spoken about the film, that it’s not supposed to be a cutesy romance but a story about a woman’s strength💗 I definitely need to reread the book now

I also thought the movie was fantastic. I've never read a Colleen Hoover book, but I've heard about the claims that her book had glorified abuse. But the movie did the opposite. I felt like it was amazing to see that Lily gets herself out of the abuse. Normally, with abuse, especially domestic abuse, it's talked about with other people making them leave and encouraging them to leave, but you never see how an individual can have that power within themselves too. Even with the drama supposedly coming out. The cast is what made me want to watch it, and now I kind of want to read the book.

I saw the movie and i was kinda disappointed. Younger lily & atlas had better chemistry than Older lily & atlas. Atlas had a big part in the book and in the movie he was barely in it. When atlas said "fall in love with me" there was zero emotion. (Idk maybe it was just me) I was waiting for Lily to say "my mother went through it, i went through it and I'll be damn if my daughter goes through it" but it never came. and when lily said "it stops here it ends with us" i didn't like the delivery. (idk. this is my opinion please don't come at me)

I agree that the book represents the cycle very well and how the abuser manipulates the victim and why the victim returns because of love and hope that the abuser will change and that’s why we were charmed by Ryle and fell for him in the beginning but see the thing is this would be all good and fine if the books came with a trigger warning so that people who are sensitive to this topic aren’t effected by it, I recently learned that Colleen Hoover REFUSES to put trigger warnings on her books and I don’t think I need to explain why this is harmful. A person I know recently went and watched the movie and was very effected because of past trauma and because they saw only the press that Blake lively was doing so the way that Colleen and Blake have allowed this narrative of “two hot guys and one hot girl” romance movie narrative is very disheartening and harmful. So because of this in a way they are glamorizing abuse and it’s very sad to see.

I think the drama of this is true and Blake lively is promoting hair and alcohol instead of the DV is so tone deaf. I think it’s so gross to promote people who Regina George everyone they work with , and Kate Middleton. Blake took over and to promote this is wrong .
