Sometimes when the right car comes along you have to bite the bullet and pull the trigger. And if you listen to John's advice you'll usually end up on top. Jordi is our CFO and after reluctantly purchasing his Yellow RUF Turbo R, he got an offer for twice what he paid within two weeks and even more surprisingly decided to say no and keep it for himself as a daily.

I’m glad the 996’s are getting the love they deserve. They’re really great cars and did a great job to bridge the gap of the air cooled to the water cooled. They offer such a pure mechanical driving experience.

I'd narrowed my search down to a 996 and a 348 Ferrari this summer. One drive in a GT3 and that was all she wrote. Best car I've ever driven/owned. IMO the back half of the car is a beautiful automotive design. And the fried egg by the time they went to the .2 models is a non-issue. Especially on this RUF. I feel the design is aging really well now.

Wonderful story. I actually bought a 996.2 GT3 Clubsport a year ago. I went on a test drive, the car was more then I wanted to pay, but I fell in love with the engine an I had to buy it. I never was a big fan of the 996. But it has aged really well and I absolutely love every single second driving that car. Cheers from Switzerland 🇨🇭

My old HS autos teacher was an auto tech for RUF in Germany during the 70s/80s. They were definitely iconic before Gran Turismo for Porsche enthusiasts. However, it did bring a lot of kids attention into the game of collecting cars which is being played today 🙌🏼

My dream car would be yellow Carrera GT. Well, one of my dream cars. I’d even take a red one. Silver would also work. Black is fine. White, blue, green, purple, orange..I’d even consider a mint green or whatever color that Boxster on Cars and Bids was.

Super awesome story. It’s hard not to fall in love with the 996 Turbo. I’ve personally owned two (still have one) and I’ve sold a number of them as a dealer (currently have two). Last year people were still cracking jokes about the headlights and interior. As the cars have increased in value you see those comments less and less. They’re definitely getting the recognition they deserve.

The head lights look more road hugging and racy the design is based on the Le Mans racing style. It's funny how some Ferrari's have gone for the long reach lights even Tesla have caught on. Pinky Lai a genius designer and was way ahead of so many other designers..Go 996...!

Why did they appreciate so much? Wtf happed…. I can not figure it out. Porsche launched all the track cayman versions. New 911 are far superior. Two years ago I coulda picked a 996 TT with 40k miles for $50k ish. Great option for the 50k mark. Now the dealers want 100k for a 20yr old Porsche. I don’t understand how a car that is extremely outdated and under powered compared to every newer 911, gain in value? It’s like if my C5Z was all of a sudden worth $50k. It’s absurd IMO.

RUF! I had an '01 that I put a bunch of RUF kit on, wheels, shifter (I still have a RUF shifter that I bought after I sold my Turbo, didn't have plans for another one, just couldn't pass it up when I saw it for sale) steering wheel, mats etc. etc. etc. Sigh. RUF. The cat's ass of Porsche-dom. There's a couple of videos on my youtubey thing that have me driving by...miss that car!

I went to RUF to service our 930. We got ruf BTR exhaust, speedline rims, Ruf stickers to the fenders and Alois himself pointed where to put the sticker. His point was since it was a Porsche the position was different than that of a true RUF. So that is not a Ruf. Sorry. It is a Porsche and has a Porsche bonnet shield of arms from Stuttgart not that black Ruf one. End of Story.

This is bogus! 2 years ago 996 turbos with 40k miles were like $55k the F360 was low $60s. Now when I got the coin the are pushing $100k!! Yeah I’ll take corvette thats better in every way. Too bad these old exotics have jumped. V8 vantage did same thing last year🤦‍♂️

@@WeAreCurated my C5Z I can sell for same price I bought for. Not appreciating. But I’m not losing value. The cars I mentioned above are not all that IMO. Only reason I was going to make a play for a exotic was 2yrs ago they were very very affordable roughly 55k. I’m not buying a 20yr old used exotic for the same price when it was new That’s just dumb. Wish I had the coin 2 years ago for a 996. I’d be selling it now for a new C8.

@@WeAreCurated keep in mind, the 996 value will drop in a year or two when the newer stuff comes out. I still don’t understand why the appreciated so much in 6 months. Most your true Porsche enthusiast hates the 996. At its old 50k used price it was a lot of value. But when you get into 100k for a car. There’s a lot of stuff faster amd better. Flipping exotics is all about timing. If you wait too long to sell you can’t gain form the equity. I don’t see the 996 holding it’s 100k value for too long.
