I own a Klingon dictionary and let me just say the struggle is real! Marc (the creator of the language) wrote the book and he gives a quick overview of the grammar. English word order is SVO (subject verb object) and Klingon is the exact opposite, OVS. It is just pain. Also, the fact that they included actual lore from the show is fabulous

Klingon is the language of the Klingons, a race of mostly warriors who honor the battles of Star Trek history. Klingons used to not like the Federation but then had to accept that a peace striving government is more powerful than their empire. Klingon was meant to be a language that is very different from English or “Federation Standard”, of course it is hard. All I can say is good luck. I tried to learn Klingon once because I’m a Trekkie. I could barely get past the first few lessons, but I like the neat references that always indicate it is form Star Trek, much of the sentences and language in Klingon reflect the series.

I am a huge huge huge fan of Star Trek and am glad this is a thing, but seeing this is a thing makes me a bit mad when my first language is still not on Duolingo no matter how many professionals we try to get to convince them to add it. Literally a language with millions of contemporary speakers is harder to get on Duolingo than Klingon.

It is an actual language, just a constructed one like Esperanto. It has a full usable grammar and vocabulary.

Brings me back to learning Esperanto on Duolingo. I'm fluent in the language now. I'm about midway through the French Duolingo course. I was top of my French class, getting 100% on my final exams. I wanna learn Russian next, because I'm interested in the county's history and culture, and if WW3 starts, I might be good enough to not get sent to the front (God help me if WW3 is against China.). I also want to learn Persian and Japanese at some point. I like anime and am interested in Persian history and literature. I want to read _The Book of Kings_ and _The Conference of the Birds_ in their original language.

When he became a teenager he stopped speaking it because he didn't like it and phrases like "turn the light on" were unecessarily difficult. I think he might have went on to learn to speak Esperanto though

@@twinfettuccine According to the kingon wedding tradition seen in Star Trek Deep Space Nine season 6 episode 7 "You Are Cordially Invited..." The gods created one klingon heart (read soul) and made it to be powerful. The heart was lonely and became weak in it's loneliness so the gods made a second. Together, the power of the 2 klingon hearts was so great that they slew the entire pantheon of gods. This myth may be found elsewhere in the franchise I don't remember but was defiantly in the aforementioned episode.

The Japanese language, although has kanji you need to drill, it's logically constructed and extremely consist. Klingon, I haven't studied this language enough to make a great comparison.

All I know about it is that it has Object-Verb-Subject sentence structure, which is the rarest type of word order in actual human languages. They constructed it that way so it would seem very alien
