This video made me realize where Smash succeeds and MultiVersus fails. Both games allow you to do cool shit, like we see here, but MV makes it so overly complicated. Smash takes an approach where you can get good and master the mechanics with your knowledge of what characters are capable of, your movement, and adaptability. Any advanced tech is helpful but not necessary, all because it's laid out in a way that's simple and accessible, but responsive and accurate. With MultiVersus, advanced tech is a *necessity* to pull off even the most basic things, like following up on an attack. If you're not using dodge meter to close in on a character in hit stun, it lasts so little time that youre likely to whiff the follow up without it. And that's what it really boils down to. You either master a character and look a billion times better than everyone else, like this dude, or it turns into a chaotic mess of swinging at the air and hoping the janky hitboxes actually land.
