Congrats on the great find! I had a very similar situation back in the early 90's. I was 16 or 17 and a friend of mine told me about a rumor he heard about a Boss 302 in a junk yard that was very close to were I lived. This was a small salvage yard that is out in the country. It couldn't be seen from the main road. I thought my friend was joking around. But I decided to take a drive out there and check for myself. Sure enough there was a red 1970 Boss 302. I asked about it and the owner said it belonged to his son. So I asked him if he could talk to his son and see if he'd want to sell it. A while later I heard back that he was willing to sell it and it had a clear title. I asked how much and he said $200! Needless to say I bought it. And then the battle started. It took the owner over 6 months to pull it out for me so I could haul it home. I actually towed it home behind my 65 Mustang coupe on a home made car dolly my dad built. Mine was in slightly better shape then yours. It was more complete. The Boss engine was long gone. It had a seized up Mexican block 302 in it. Most of the original 4 spd was in pieces in the trunk. The original rear end housing and axles were there but the center section was gone. The original hood was gone, it had a white Mach 1 hood with the scoop missing. I cleaned the car out and pulled a lot of the interior out to clean out the car. I found the build sheet. After getting it all cleaned out and seeing just how rusty it was I decided I was way over my head. This led me to my biggest car related regret in my life. Being young and broke, I traded the Boss to a Mustang guy I knew for a rebuilt FE Top loader 4spd transmission and a few hundred dollars. There's not a day that goes by that I don't wish I still had that car!!

I shake my head at the people that debate the originality, authenticity or money behind fixing a car that needs so much. Those are people that can’t do the work let alone do it well and can’t pay to have the work done. I appreciate the skill and patience it takes to bring a vehicle back to life I can’t wait to see you get to work on it. to the negative people that don’t understand, maybe just keep your thoughts to yourself.

Lovely find! Some cars have great histories and some have very unfortunate ones. I passed up a 1967 GT Fastback shell... the shell was way "less scary" than this in metal work, but it had too much sentiment for people near me. It was crashed "early into ownership" then parked in a junk yard and stripped of everything. It hit a tree very squarely in the middle (radiator support was nearly touching the cowl) and I found out the passenger that was sitting in the back seat died. A friend of my step dads that died from that accident in high school... Two other friends were in the car, all ejected forward, but one didn't miss the tree. This is why I appreciate people who are respectful when asking about cars that are just "laying around" and why I always encourage it.

My aunt’s brother had a ‘70 Boss 302, 4 speed car that also happened to be grabber orange. Beautiful car that I was fortunate to get a ride in around the windy roads of southern Wi when I was 14. One of the cars that cemented my love of muscle cars.

I love these finds - you go looking for something else, and something really cool sneaks up on you like this. Thanks for the video. Nothing left on it to resurrect it as a numbers-matching car, but that just makes it more fun. I love ALL of the first gen Mustangs. The 1970 model was a very distinctive looking car - the only year they looked like this, and right when the size of these cars started to get out of hand.

That’s a nice find. I’ve been doing Mopar restorations for as long as I can remember. I’ve done a few that were really rough. I won’t get involved with a car that rough anymore (too much for me with little profit), but it’s definitely something that can be done, especially it it’s for yourself and there isn’t any time frame involved. If I buy something like that now it’s mainly for some odds and ends that can be cut off of what’s left.
