A lot of young soldiers lost their lives there - I'm talking about children who are just over the age of 18 - I hope that something like that never happens again. Much Love from Montenegro.

NATO ground troops commander Wesley Clark wrote a book called modern warfare, 04/09/1999. the bloodiest battles for the preservation of the territorial integrity of Yugoslavia were fought in this area, attacked by nato, uck, albania and others. The place you are walking on is covered in blood.. in Serbian, look for BITKA ZA KOŠARE on you tube and you will see authentic footage

The truth must be known, and that is, the Serbian army withdrew from the Košara (army base) watchtower to reserve positions, which are more favorable for defense, the Košara (army base) watchtower remained empty, because it was not strategically in a favorable position for defense, because it is overshadowed by the hills around it, KLA terrorists walked into an abandoned guardhouse and then filmed and portrayed it as a "Great Victory" but in fact it was not like that at all, there are also examples when KLA terrorists captured wounded young Serbian soldiers aged 19, 20, 22 and then tortured them to death, cut them parts of the body and scratched the skin while they were still alive, many of those guys have not been found even today, i.e. their bodies, and they are probably still somewhere in the Košara area, that is the real truth

And one more thing, Army base Košare was attacked by KLA terrorists supported by the regular army of Albania, NATO troops, NATO planes, NATO experts on mortars, Mujahideen, volunteers from Croatia and Bosnia, but in the Serbian army there was such morale and courage and the knowledge of the elders and commanders, that all those troops could not break through further, but were stopped by the Serbian brave and heroic army, regardless of all the atrocities committed by KLA terrorists when they capture a wounded soldier of the Serbian army On the first two days of the ground attack on Košare, on April 9 and 10, the border in the Košare region was defended by a total of 130 border guards until reinforcements from other army units arrived, and those 130 border guards were attacked by about 1,500 KLA terrorists, Mujahideen mercenaries and everyone else that I have already wrote, The heroism of the Serbian army is immeasurable

@@Slots-Room You Albanians, if you were so strong, you would not ask to be protected by NATO and America, and this is the living truth that I am telling, because I was told by many people who fought in Košare and that many of them do not even know each other, so do not lie and do not hide your crimes against captured wounded soldiers, you present yourself as some heroes, and heroes do not torture wounded prisoners, but show them help

I know what you mean, sometimes it's good to get off the trails and make your own route. Probably not a good idea around here though!

I don't blame you for not going any further into the military base - the sort of place I'd go into with a guide if they said it was safe, but I too would have stood at the doorway gazing in! Really good to see that the it's being protected with the new roof over it as you're right about how significant the place is. The hiking trails looked interesting, but based on the ascent and decent being different, I assume they are point to point trails - far too long for a day hike then if you have to come back the way you came from - but not sure what the set up is like over there for guided hikes where you're dropped at one end and collected at the other - do you know Matt?
@MattWhitingsEurope

I had a closer look because I had a few questions too. My understanding is that those 4 hikes listed on the board are sections of the much longer Via Dinarica hiking trail that passes through a number of countries in the Balkans. To make any sense of it you have to read the 4 hikes backwards, so starting in Koshare hike number 4 would take you 19KM northwards to the Ereniku Basin, that's where hike number 3 would start and continue northwards to Dobrosh. At the end of the 4 sections (69.5km north from where I filmed this video) is Liqenat which is the name of the mysterious lake I hiked to a couple of episodes back(and also possibly a nearby mountain). If you look at the map on the sign the whole route is represented by a red line running along the border, the 4 sections seem to be broken down in red writing but the names are inconsistent between what's written on the map and what they're called in the list. I assume there are small villages or mountain cabins between each of the 4 sections but I'm not sure, either way you're hiking through some very remote terrain. It looks like trails branch off the main routes at various points and take you to mountain peaks and other points of interest. It sure looks like it would be one heck of an experience!! I think there's a few company's that will offer up guided hikes, probably based in Pristina but also available on the web. Hope that all makes sense! I've learnt something there too.

@@MattWhitingsEurope Hi Matt, thank you so much for such a detailed response! I'm a big fan of day hiking, but due to the restrictions placed on us in the UK with wild camping, I don't have much confidence with multi day hikes so feel like something guided would be a good way to get started. It's how I found my feet travelling, did a few Trek America's / Toucan Travel tours, watched carefully how it was done, then thought 'I'm ready to try myself!' I still like the odd tour every now and again though to ease the planning stress. I'll be sure to look into guided hikes a bit more in Kosovo as it's a country very much on my bucket list!

Koshare was a border base of serbian army. UCK fought a real battle with thousands of men and Artillerie against serbian troops and won with the help of NATO bombings. But you should warn people that hiking in this area isnt recommended because of unexploded mines.

You mean you lost over 500, and we lost 108, and you failed to break through the front line despite the help of daily targeting by nato planes and infantry attacks with the help of mercenaries and the foreign legion, you are very bad fighters, this is also proven at Pastrik, where you lost over 1000 soldiers and you officially lost 4,500 thousand during the entire war, Kosovo is Serbia
