The big wheel is the main drive wheel for the tram cable. The wooden brake shoe might have had a water source nearby to keep it from burning.

That was the wheel that powered/braked the cable - those things you have your fingers on grip the cable.

I would love to explore places like this before I lost my sight completely. It was always my dream to go to places like this ghost towns, caves, etc. Unfortunately I'm now all alone in life and my time with my vision is getting very short. I always thought I would have time to full fill my dream when we retired. But life took Rick at just turned 60 and at 56 alone and going blind. Maybe my story will show others not to wait until tomorrow's to do something, or see something you always want to do. Don't put off your dreams

Just the value in scrap metal all over that mountain must be half a million bucks... I know because I work for a large Canadian metals recycler.

If that cave didn't have a rough timber entrance, you would be calling it a tunnel, not a mine. Plus the cool stonework at the beginning looks to be much older than the surroundings... Were they digging out existing structure?

All that core. Drilled at great cost. Left to deteriorate outside and its context lost. Would have been very valuable to geologic science.

Awesome video and great history. I think what you found around the 11:44 mark was a terminal for the tram system. The big part with the brake on top was the "bull wheel" which turns the cable for the tram system just like a modern cablecar or ski resort chairlift. The minecart tracks probably looped around so the ore could be transferred in or out of the tramway.

I remember when I did shit like this. My adult life, however, began. I'm not saying you're some irresponsible kid, don't mince my words, I am Not saying that. I do mean that I used to be just as free. I bought a house. I developed a career. I threw everything important away. I have to deal with that. I try to get it back, but "I don't have the time", forever and always. I could give up everything, my home, my retirement, my current life (which would kinda be the idea).
