My son now thinks you steal the gold after that comment about being a good person and putting it back and then saying just kidding. I told him you were a friendly and funny thief. I'll explain to him before bed you're not a thief but am kinda getting a kick outta it now, He now thinks you're streaking Dan hurds gold. I'm an afful father

I love your sniping vids, tbh I love all your vids. I gotta say the underwater sniping sounds and visuals are really relaxing for me, helps with anxiety and feeds a little of my inner gold fever soul too ;) I think this vid has edited out some of the more underwater footage of you searching and sniping than you used to, be good to add some more of those bits back in. but I understand you probably have maaaany, tastes to cater for. so no presh :D

Love seeing you out sniping Pauly. And I may be wrong, but it seems like you find just as much as someone panning. And it looks like a whole lot less work involved. Now I know you have to fight the current a lot of times, and move rocks around, plus being in the cold water........... But I'd think that beats digging up the dirt and rocks, then hauling it to the water, swirling it around, etc, etc........ Just my thoughts, and I guess a vote for sniping. :)

If you don't need to dive the snorkel, I recommend the 360° mask and a trekin shoe since the neoprene of the boot is sensitive to breakage. Translated from Spanish to English

As you said, gold is 19.3 times heavier than water. Ordinary stone is about 2.6 times heavier than water. This means that gold is 19.3/2.6 = 7.4 times heavier than ordinary stone. But in water Archimedes' principle is important. Because of it, in water, gold is effectively (19.3-1)/(2.6-1) = 11.4 times heavier than ordinary stone. That's one reason it's better to pan in water than in air.

You wern't kidding about how sharp shale is, You need some new gloves! Fun fact: before settlers came in to Alaska and Antartica the inuit and the other eskimo tribes made their knives the ulu from chipped slabs of shale and either wood, bone, or, ivory to serve for the handle! They discovered the metal brass and iron by trading with the very cold white man for warm furs!! I guess they were very excited about metal so they could stop getting cut up making their knives from shale!! 😂 awsome knives though, loved your video!!

Fascinating videos, Pauly. It wiould help if you took some time to learn your rock types. That is not shale but more like metasediments cut with numerous quartz and calcite veins. The gold would be associated with the quartz and even some of the metasediments. And platinum is usually associated with gold - and forms amalgams with it.

I was wondering the same thing because I find a good amount of it every time I go panning. Mosley it’s thin leaf flake. I need to separate it from the gold, because I also thought it was mercury covered gold. It also dose not act like gold does in water.

Here's a way you can test whether or not that piece is Pt or not. Heat it up until it's red hot (don't worry about melting, if it melts easily it's definitely not Pt.) Then watch how quickly it cools. Pt will cool extremely quickly when compared with most other metals. That being said the piece is very small, so maybe this wouldn't be the easiest way to test. Now that I'm thinking about it Mercury is supposed to have a very very low melting point, so your test with the torch there should confirm that it isn't just mercury amalgam.
