Awesome! A couple years ago, I bought two GTX 480s for dirt cheap. Was good seller but I went about a year before installing one. It worked for about one second and the power supply blew up. Well, it blew one cap. I test everything in a backup backup backup system so no big loss and the power supply didn't take out anything with it.

I’m still running a gtx 480 lol got the gigabyte edition with 3 fans so the fire risk isn’t there lol runs perfectly fine even by today’s standards
@SianaGearz2 жыл бұрын
Caps that are severely degraded from use and which are then sat around for years without being turned on are suspect even if they worked before, they might blow the next time they're brought rapidly up to operating voltage, as the polarisation of the cap may not be intact any longer. I don't even know whether the GPU contributed to that, it starts off in a low power mode, like sure you expect some extra heat in the can due to the burst load, but if the capacitor oxide layer is no longer fully formed, the only way to get it back on is gradually raising the voltage over hours, full voltage no-load condition isn't going to be very helpful at all.
@FearThePegasus2 жыл бұрын
The heat gun method you used is called reflowing, what you are doing is melting the solder underneath the GPU which when it cools down can reconnect bad solder joints that weren't making proper connection to the actual motherboard of the graphics card. The proper way to do this also involves using a good amount of flux to make sure the melted solder hardens on the proper contact pads.
@erfansoltani6782 жыл бұрын
Thnx for the informations
@DarkoPetreski2 жыл бұрын
You don't fix that problem with a reflow, only by replacing the chip. You CAN'T reflow the bumps on the flipchip, so flux is useless in this case. You just put a bandaid on the problem, and sooner or later the flipchip connections will loosen up and it will stop working again.
@amirpourghoureiyan16372 жыл бұрын
@@DarkoPetreski Depends if the chip's damaged, most time it's not and you can get away with re-balling the package. @SianaGearz2 жыл бұрын
@LabRat Knatz i have a hard time believing that the heat gun action as shown gets the card up to the liquidus. There have been a number of issues in that era, including lack of underfill, bad thermal expansion coefficient matching, a lot of things went wrong at once. Of course these materials worked "fine" when softer leaded solder was used and when power density wasn't quite as high, but well things changed. But ceramic and tantalum caps are worth an extra thought, when they go faulty, they sometimes recover when heated up. Not quite ideal but the issue might not crop up again after.

They were stuttery, poorly equipped for and near or far future, HOT and LOUD and ate nuclear amounts of power. This GTX 580 you have here had a 244 Watt TDP....in reality it ate around 290 Watts as a GPU alone and exhailed HUGE amounts of STEAMY HOT AIR inside a case due to its inefficiency. If you have never tried the oven regiment you should. As long as your oven gets up to 550 you can use it a toaster oven is a great idea basically you put the card in for three or four separate stages the starting off with a heat of like 230 for 30 minutes then you crank it up another hundred degrees another 30 and just rinse and repeat. Let it cool completely before you touch it or move it. Usually a couple of hours and then give her a go. Works better than a heat gun every time but not as good as true board repair

you should use two separate 8pin instead of a single one with a split to avoid issues with the power delivery.
@joemarais76832 жыл бұрын
That's not an issue with older gpus. Just the newer nvidia cards since nvidia is too incompetent to mitigate power draw spikes.
@Jasontvnd92 жыл бұрын
it really won't matter , modern PSU's supply all there power on a single 12v Rail and the cable gauge is going to have no issues throwing 240w through it especially when its a seasonic unit that are literally famous for there reliability.

Audio seems to be a lot quieter on this one. I had to crank it all the way up to even hear you. KZbin says your audio is at -15.6db! That's lower than pretty much any video I've watched. Even -11db was enough not to be able to hear you on my old airpods. It'd be good to normalize it at least above -6db. And, no, I don't know why KZbin doesn't ever automatically normalize audio, even though it can clearly detect when it is too low.

@@incognito9292 Yeah, no. Multiple comments talk about it. The video is really quiet. It's nearly twice as quiet as the other video I'm watching right now.

How rare would you say a Gainward Rampage 700 Golden Sample "Goes like hell" edition card is? It's a chonky triple slot HD 4870x2, slightly overclocked from factory.
@findRED2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a nice find. In the USA those would be rare as Gainward was usually not sold in our market

Wouldn't worry a bit about a receding hairline, matey - it made absolutely *no* difference in pulling birds whatsoever. I couldn't pull them before I lost my hair and I couldn't pull them.afterwards either.

Fun video as always! I have a question for ya! I have a card that looks similar to this in storage right now. I don't know if it's a platinum edition or not but I am curious to check. Would you happen to know how much these platinum cards would normally be listed for on the used market? Would be cool to know if I had something valuable in storage all this time.
@RandomGaminginHD2 жыл бұрын
Hard to say, the best bet would be to auction it online, but only if you want to risk it not selling for quite what you want

10:11 of course it wouldn't start in DX12 mode. That card only supports DX11.
