I'm no expert, but as a guy who use to go catch and release snapping turtles, a can say that turtle was most likely wild caught. I've seen various types of turtles with moss like that on their backs. This normally doesn't happen in captivity so my theory is that this can happen from hibernation. Also, that turtle is acting like it doesn't get fed enough. It seems like it's used to eat the natural way (mouth open looking it's tongue as a lure and waiting for a fish to swim in their mouth), but out of desperation is trying to trick the fish into swimming in its mouth. Alligator snapping turtles have insanely long necks, but will not strike like other snapping turtles. This is why if you do decide to catch a alligator snapper, DO NOT TAKE IT HOME!!! If it spends time hungry at your house, it want survive a release. This turtle will probably be in improper enclosures it's whole life until it's big enough to be considered a spectacle at a zoo. Thats only if they don't release a now tamed turtle into the wild where it forgot how to hunt.

Sweet! Non professional professionals turn to guess🥰🥰🥰 Looks like they glued Marimo moss specifically over it's middle only. That's what it looks like when I glue it to lava rocks. Wild growing aquatic moss (algae) does not grow that specifically on turtles. Considering the turtle is not sitting still luring with his tongue.... That poor thing looks to have been stuck with people awhile😞 Take it from someone who catches and releases alligator snappers.... So they can catch and keep the common😁🤤 Sorry Chris😎 they're just so yummy.....and legal😁

I love alligator snapping turtles. We occasionally get them where I live (I’m at the far edge of their range). They’re very, very much ambush predators, so that’s why that little baby gator snapper is hopelessly bad at hunting down that goldfish. Plus, being a baby turtle, he hasn’t learned to just chill and let the fish come to him. Also, the moss won’t hurt him. In the wild they grow moss from their nose to their tail and it doesn’t hurt them. It helps them camouflage. My biggest concern would be if this person has plans for when that turtle is 150lbs/68kg (or more).

I got a Male betta fish when I was about 14 years old (This was about the time where computers weren't unheard of but not everyone owned one and "Google it" wasn't even a thing) My Mom had a 40 Gal tank, found free in the Nickle paper, and told us kids if we wanted any fish we could buy it ourselves. My bother spent his birthday money on guppies and my sister bought like 20 goldfish and I got my betta. A few of the goldfish died and my dad brought home an African dwarf Frog. My Betta massacred it. And my mother put him in a flower vase and told me if I wanted to keep it, it had to stay out of the tank. I got it a not much bigger fish bowl and would wash out his bowl every 2 weeks. I legit would put my hand in there, lift him up out of the bowl and into a cup during the cleaning. It never once occurred to me he would/could hurt me. At 18 I went to college and got him a 5 gal tank- No one ever once asked or shamed me about his tank- All anyone told me, Including a friend who wanted to be a Marine Biologist, was that he must be happy because how beautiful and healthy he was. At 20 I was married and for the first time my husband asked if I'd ever taken him to see a vet. I remember laughing, because it's a fish that's not a thing. He booked an appointment and that was my fist time realizing that before the internet only people with money had the ability to access this kind of information. This was when I was told that for his age (6 Years) he was in pretty good condition, no fin rot/damage, nice overall coloring, but a little dark; asked me things like what I fed (Pellets and blood worms), how often I cleaned his tank (1 a month, granted I still did the whole transfer by hand to a cup and like legit wash/scrub out the tank) and what heater- what? My fish legit had no heater for 6 years! He got so much more active once I got one, I upgraded to a 20 gal and this vet kindly explained how water changing is suppose to happen including water testing. I had no idea that betta needed a heater/ didn't know you could buy fishtank heaters. He didn't like the new water being poured in so I still transferred to cup by hand during water changes till his passing, but his last 3 years were the best of his life. I'm lucky he never attacked me ( I even had thing when I wanted to treat him with a blood worm I would grab one in the tips of my fingers and he would swim in a circle following my finger and go upside down and everything and the then I would drop it in his tank). He lived to be just shy of 9 years old and I cried for months. I'll probably never get another Betta fish, and watching this channel makes me realize even more things I could have done better. It's been many, many years since and I currently have a guppy/neon tetra tank- I didn't want 'new' fish but my daughter who is almost one is enamored by all the plants and of course the fish. Our neighbor has an outdoor Koi pond and when I saw how determined she was to see their fish "P's" (It's what she calls puppies '-pies', and I guess to her fish are puppies) I got her own. Only one Neon Tetra is named Neon-Eyes because My husband says only one of the fish's eyes glow even in the dark.

Turtle is fine. Gator snappers even get moss growing on their head and it doesn't affect them. Even if someone was to glue moss to its back, as long as it isn't going to corrode the shell it will be fine. Feeder goldfish are fine for a snapper. Best to diversify its diet but they aren't going to hurt them if they eat em. That turtle looks healthy enough that its diet is most likely pretty diverse. Granted, feeder goldies all the time is not a good thing. Would be like drinking mountain dew every day, just don't. Common snappers are more of a pursuit predator, and alligator snappers are the ambush. So the one in this video was a gator snapper. When young it probably hasn't figured out the sit still and wiggle its tongue method yet. Granted, many captive gator snappers never do because they're fed pellets and have to go up to get em. Not an issue for the animal, just dont release em

Man, even with my 20s and my 29, I tried to look up the weight capacity of some of my existing IKEA furniture (metal PS cabinet), and decided only to put a 10 gallon on it. For the 20s and 29, I settled on only using sturdy older real wood furniture, along with heavy duty shelving units that I could confirm their weight capacity. 8 lbs for every gallon of water, people!

@@reese8120 Well, not cheaper than the "vintage" hardwood furniture I already owned, or found at the thrift store. But I take your point. One caution though, about heavy duty shelving units ... they may have a great weight capacity in general, but some of them are quite prone to shelves bowing, which isn't ideal for tanks. So definitely check reviews! And search for "brand name + fish tanks" and you might even get lucky, as I did when I was buying my fish rack, and find some fish forum discussions about the very unit you're considering buying. And if I recall correctly, the material that the shelves themselves are made of is worth investigating before purchase too.

@@tinywing1236 I'm not a turtle expert, but from what I understand, they're messy eaters, and water quality can be tricky. I guess it's fine, to a degree, to buy smaller tanks and upgrade, but I think the concern is that people will think they can buy a really small tank, bc the turtles are really small when they're sold. But they get a lot bigger (clerk told them it would get the size of a dinner plate) and too many people won't upgrade soon enough, or maybe even at all. My betta watches me in the morning waiting for his feeding and as soon as I sit up I see him literally spring out of his hiding and start speraticly swimming along the top waiting for food. Weirdly enough (I dont know if it's common), he hasn't tried biting me.

Just starting my journey in guppy husbandry. I had 3 males but then my cobra pattern one ate the other two's tails off. Now he's all alone and I know that they're social fish. Should I get more guppies and chance that he might kill those too or have him alone for the rest of his life? Currently reading and buying books on guppy care, but thought I should try here too lol

Common snappers and alligator snappers are pretty common where I’m from. I’ve seen larger wild snappers with whole ecosystems on their back.

When you poor the old water from the water change straight into your coffee. Jokes aside, I'm really happy I got this channel recommended. I'm taking so much better care of my fish now.

Looks like dwarf water lettuce to me. They're easy to take care of and they have tiny white flowers! And they multiply quickly. :)
