To anyone curious about generator RPM: Direct drive, AC generators typically always run at 3600 RPM. That is because 3600 RPM is 60 revolutions per second. This coincides with 60HZ AC power, which is also 60 cycles/second.

if your coil isn't bad, you can also add the nova II module to bypass the points. cheaper then a new coil and no need to remove the flywheel.

For classic car applications, the guys at Shell often recommend Rotella, and although it’s thought of as a diesel engine oil, its high-zinc formulation that’s made to fight scuffing on metal-to-metal contact is just what older engines need. So make sure the oil you select for your classic engine is from a quality brand and that it has plenty of ZDDP. You don’t have to guess though, you can get a recommendation from Shell by calling 1-800-BEST-OIL.

@muddy_armadillo3 жыл бұрын
On Briggs engines, there are 3 sets of numbers that make up the serial number. The first 2 numbers of the 3rd number is the year, not the last 2 numbers of the 3rd number. Also on these old Briggs most of the time when you delete points you have to put the coil on backwards for the timing to be right.

I remember doing this about 50 times a year in VO-TECH class MOTR. The school had about 200 Briggs,and Tecumseh engines on shelves. We would intentionally leave parts loose, to see what happens. We destroyed soo many but also We rebuilt so many.
@cwgreen19383 жыл бұрын
Zack and John, I think it would be nice if you left the Briggs as original as possible. Could you not find an adapter to go from a tapered shaft or maybe build one that would be tapered on the inside and straight on the OD and also be 3/4 or 1", which ever you need to fit the clutch that you are going to use. Also you can get rebuild kits for those carbs from Briggs. With your magic pipe bender you could make an exhaust pipe that would fit better than one you could buy. Maybe see you'll at Alliance Airport in Ft. Worth.

the best candidates I have found for a cheap go cart engines are generators and snow blowers . both have low hours and in most cases are barely broken in decades later. the last one I got was a 6 horse briggs with 50 hours on the clock timer mounted to the engine. the owner had destroyed the main bearings in the snow blower drive and it was cheaper to just get a new snow blower . the only down side of the snow blower engines is having to take off the winterization parts for summer usage that is unless you need a winter go cart engine then it's perfect

One thing I suggested long ago was to add a Tecumseh 3/3.5 carb to a 5 hp Briggs motor, this will eliminate the tank carb combo and be a nice upgrade for power (as strange as it sounds). What is comical in 40+ years you will never find a "vintage" Predator that will fire over as easy as a Briggs.
