I think the mansion was made to be a hideout during some kind of war. Then it was maybe abandoned for several year after which it was renovated. My theories: 1.maybe after war the underground and the top hideout was not renovated and a person broke into the house and is now living there. The person can be a theif who is either using your house as a secret hideout or is planning to rob your house. 2.maybe it is some kind of ghost or spirit of a soldier who died there. And is now haunting your house 3. Maybe its your imagination and the cracks and footstep noises are just signs of your house breaking down.

If it was dust it wouldn't have froze when they move the camera numskull it a ghost's atmospheric body change or a.k.a orbs that is why Ryan was light-headed the first go round when he came out of the tunnel so if it was dust it would have continued to swirl around and not freeze if you knew anything about ghosts then you would know now wouldn't you
