I found an outlaws hideout from the days of the old west!

The hole in the back supplied air to a fire in the back... The fire would warm the cave walls and essentially it was a survival shelter... Whether for 1800s outlaws or prospector or homeless vagabond this is a great location to know for big out... Nice find

I agree Allen, just like a wood fired bread oven. Fire in the back, any smoke travels up and out. Warms the whole cave. Ash was built up over time. I bet that bed of coals was deep!

I am with them. The soot on the ceiling goes back too far for that opening. There could be a treasure of history buried and could go much deeper and maybe inhabitants from different eras . I would love to explore it with you. i find it historically interesting to say the least. Thanks for sharing.

Could be alot of things, outlaw hideout, a place someone stopped to camp or rest, or a prospectors camp. I'd bring a metal detector and see if there's anything around. Even back then, the average person, not a criminal would have taken refuge there from poor weather or set up camp there because it's a natural shelter. Really cool find, doesn't look like anyone's been in there in ages.

The fire would have been in the back corner so they could take advantage of as much radiant heat as possible while sleeping between the fire and the front opening so as to use their bodies to try to hide as much excaping light of the fire as possible. It's their smartest move by far.

Your "Stove pipes" were old tin cans. Some hiker turned a couple of cans into an impromptu "Hobo" camp stove for a quick meal.

Fascinating find. The “door” was probably used as a table to eat off of, as well as a base for more camouflage (maybe). I would definitely return with, as others have suggested, a metal detector, hard hat, pick axe, etc. Do another video when, or if, you do return.

That fire was much deeper in the crevice. It would be a good idea to dig the back of that out because it definitely went farther back at one time. I wonder what's being hidden back their. Dirt dont run up in to caves, it runs out...

Into or out of, depend on wind direction. I have seen deep ditches (several yards deep)on a motorcycle hill climb completely filled in by wind storm while the same storm stripped all the soil from a grass covered hillside close by but at a slightly different angle. You simply can't expect natur to do what you expected.

There was a fire..ancient people made fires exactly like that because hot air rises and follows the cave ceiling out the entrance, pushed by cold air that was heated....look it up

I would bet that if you dig around that entire area with a medal detector who knows what and how much you will find. Someone found Jessie James hideout awhile back,watching the program called treasure hunters. They found a horde of mason jars full of silver dollars and gold coins. You may have found a jack pot. Where did they find Jesse James’s hideout? Who was it? I’m fascinated by this stuff because I’m married to a descendant of Frank James most probably-possibly Jesse James according to family history, however it’s known Frank James was in the area, so it’s possible. Fascinating stuff no doubt. If what I’ve read is true Jesse James lived a lot longer life than he is thought to. His gang left a lot of treasure caches around as well.

Well I'd say if there was some kind of "outlaw" holding up there. They would want the fire at the back of the cave so it didn't blind the site out of the cave! You always want a fire at your back for best visibility! You cant really see over a fire very well. And seeing how smoke rises and there is a high triangular effect to that ceiling the smoke would just roll right on out!

You have came close to discovering the delim. Fire between you and your enemy you can't see them. you between them and your fire you are silhouetted in front of the fire and very easily seen. The solution you are off to one side in a shadow. Or you put the fire inside of a steel box so no light is visible at all and hope your night vision is better than any attacker.

Nothing I've seen proves this "hide out" date's back to the old west. The item he poked at outside looks like an old cylindrical filter of some kind, maybe an antique oil filter. Maybe circa 1920s-1940s. If he'd found petrified horse apples or old leather from horse tackle or saddlebags I might be inclined to consider it a possibility. It may be a stash hole or a hideaway for liquor runners during prohibition. Still an interesting find.

Maybe the piece of wood was used for a makeshift table ,? and the cans the rusty tin cans how long do you think it would take a can to rust like that in the dry arid desert they could be 100 years old? Such are the mysteries of the Wild West :-) one never really knows what went! on! but I wish I had a cave like that! a place to hang out! Put a cot in there and table! a fire! a pot of beans! and some coffee! and my 22 rifle of course! and don't forget the wife just wouldn't be the same without my Sally who abandoned me 11 years ago!! by the way after being together since 17 years old and I'm 65

Halooo! Great find!! Gargantuan imagination! The galvanized screen from a oil lantern is a good dating clue.(research g.s. invented) While this is obviously a site intended for privacy( for whatever reason) it's value is determined by it's geo- location.( relative to populated areas/ historical events/ or just hiker/ camper trips. My , un- educated guess would be post 1935, based on g.s. But earlier "guests" are certainly a possibility. Still, an interesting find. Grats!

From my eyes, cuz we're I live we got hideouts used my Bloody Bill Anderson, Captian Quantrill, Captian George Todd, James Gang, and Dalton Gang in my area. From my to eyes it looks more like a old mine shaft cuz the door you say looks to be made of plywood and has hex head bolts, the stove top has wire mesh, so most like it's a old mine entrence from the 1890's-1920's maybe

Depending on what state this is there is probably a mine explorer here with the know-how to safely get into the back of that and check out how far it goes. this looks like it was once a mine that got backfilled to close it off. I'm wondering if there's a shaft somewhere up that hill from you and someone tossed down a flare and set a fire and that's where the smoke came from. If this is the southwest like I think, contact Gly over at Abandoned And Forgotten Places. he does that region and will definitely have some good knowledge about this

The one container isn't for a rain gutter it's a hand fashioned strainer... Or maybe a cloth inside it meant they could put their coffee grounds in it and strain hot water through...

Plywood like that wasn't around until the late 50's from what I remember. It was invented in the 1800's but wasn't very good or used much because it was so hard to make. The plywood in the video looks very modern to me.

Everything is post 1950's. Nothing evidence wise that is compelling otherwise. Some empty .44 Henry, .44 WCF, or 45 Colt casings would help. Find some elsewhere and throw them in there..
