That's what was so frustrating about him. Even before his mental collapse-- back when he was shooting a legit 62% on free throws, which isn't good (obviously) but is too high for a "Hack-a-Ben" strategy-- coaches were saying his complete unwillingness to take jump shots was wrecking the spacing. Even if he can hit only 35% of them, i.e., be average, he would force defenses to respect it instead of sagging off of him. But he took only ELEVEN non-buzzers, all in a 2-year period (2019-20 and 2020-21). He should've taken 1- 1.5 per game.

When I told ppl I thought he was way overrated, definitely NOT one of the top 20 players in the country never mind #1, everyone told me I was crazy.
