You can read a treasure map if you know the direction you have to go. You wait at the top left (north-west), but the treasure was almost at the bottom right (south-east). So you have to go south-east. Then when you stand exactly on the X, go one pixel down so that your character point is one pixel outside of the X. Then you get up over the chest, if not you have to dig a little. Oh and what poisoned you was a puffer fish that you got too close
