Dave, you should try metal detecting next to get that "fisherman's high" you were talking about, hey you can even find gold if you are lucky :)

This was nice! Maybe you should go different areas of Finland and try out their special traditions. Like baking REAL Karelian pasty at South Korelia or something else with other areas. Home country traveling is right now the thing!

I would also recommend visiting a traditional tar maker if you get a chance, since there aren't many around any more. I think these processes are quite fascinating and beautiful, while labour intensive. I grew up in Sodankylä and always loved our family's summer trips to different nearby destinations: an amethyst mine where I could pick my own, seeing stuffed animal corpses in centres at the beginning of bigger hiking trails, eräkämpät ja ulkohuussit, picking berries and fishing. I hope you get to experience with your family all that I enjoyed as a child in there, if you ever get the chance to visit again.

Cheers from Australia. I took my Finnish exchange student to a similar place here in Australia, we tried some gold panning but didn't find any gold. When I visited her in Finland we traveled on the overnight train to Rovaniemi and went to Santa's village. I love your videos, please make more like this of places to visit for when I can visit Finland again, Covid lockdown go me stuck in Australia.

I remember when I was a kid and I was at Lemmenjoki. We got a chance to try dig up some gold on the properties of some old guy who lived there alone by the river in the tiny little hut not very much bigger than those outside wooden toilets. He had found a piece that he said was worth around two thousand euros or something. He showed it to us and it was like around five to seven centimeters long, maybe some three centimeters wide and maybe like one thick. The thing was heavy and he said he didn't want to exchange it because it meant too much for him. But come on! Two thousand, I would sell it in a heart beat. Also he said that whatever we can dig up we can keep. I found a small piece of garnet, which I don't have anymore. I might've given it away or something. One cousin was with us and he found gold, but those gold pieces were so tiny that even when they were in a sample jar in the water that makes the piece look bigger, you could just barely see that there was anything in the water. But of course he was still very cocky about it and he was like "But I found gold and you didn't, sucker".

I went on a summer camp near there as a kid and we got the chance to try some mining. I only found a bunch of small pieces of garnet, and no one got any gold unfortunately. I still have the garnet in my drawer though, in the original tube. =d

I know you like fishing. There's a KZbin channel named Eumer Fishing. They every now and then make collaboration with other KZbinrs too. They have a biggest Fishing Shop in Finland, I think, and they also have many fishing quides at their service. So, why don't you make a contact with them and try next (or sometime in a future) some fishing with the real pro's?
