That's one of the warmest, most magnificent feelings... when you go to another country and see your own countrymen. They're like best friends though you'd never seen them before in your entire life. If you were in your own country, you probably never would have met those guys. Why does it seem like you're learning your new language so fast. I just admire that you're taking every opportunity to use what you're learning. The best part is that you aren't afraid to practise publicly. Keep it up.

Ug Connect, karibu and thank you for coming to Eastleigh. A correction, the Somali people are indigenous to Kenya. Nairobi was originally segregated as the British attempted to divide and rule. So Eastleigh is historically the neighborhood where Kenyan Somalis lived and set up business. The title suggests that it was set up by Somalis from Somalia. I always wonder how Bantu Kenyans would feel if neighbourhoods dominated by us were to be called “little Congo or Kinshasa for example” or Nilotes would feel if neighborhoods or towns they dominate were to be called “little Rumbek, Juba or South Sudan etc.” I am an admirer of both you and Dolphine but I request please respect the ethno diversity of Kenya and stop calling Eastleigh “little Somalia”. When we do that we are excluding a huge segment of our Kenyan sisters and brothers.

There r somalis who r Kenyans likewise there are those that came in as refugees during the war.. Eastleigh was actually more of a black Kenyans and Indian neighborhood prior to that and they left when somalis moved there in droves..I hate the term 'little Mogadishu/Somali' too

Eastleigh became a major shopping center after 1991 when businessmen who emigrated from Mogadishu moved their business there because of the peace. Somalis in Kenya( North Eastern) would have been there since 1960s but the market become competitive after Mogadishu traders arrived there 1991.

@@abdulahiabukar4621 at the end of the day the original folk there were Kenyans. After all today Somalis from Somalia are found in many upmarket neighborhoods. Are we now to rename those. I was pointing this out because many non Kenyans don’t realize Kenya has indigenous Somalis, Borana, Oromo etc. This characterization of Somalis as non Kenyans is a unique form of bigotry faced only by the Somali. No other Kenyan community consistently faces a questioning of its Kenyaness. Worse still young Kenyan you tubers keep feeding this narrative. So it’s important that we remind each other of the richness of our diversity

By the way you know that the Wanga Kingdom of Western Kenya was the Eastern front of the Bunyoro Kitara Empire and was part of the inter lacustrine kingdoms of East and Central Africa. The Wanga monarch, when he realized he had fallen into the British is trap entered into a pact with the Somali. So in Western Kenya in the two major towns of Kakamega and Bungoma there are Somali communities who are today indigenous to those parts of the country. In Kakamega this neighborhood is called Kampi Somali. Nabongo Mumia gave his daughter (one of the princesses) to a Somali man in marriage. Her descendants live in North Eastern Kenya and speak. We as Africans have our own indigenous links. Both Kakamega and Bungoma counties border Uganda I am not surprised you are meeting your country men in Eastleigh. There is a more ancient connection

@@unjubinunuk5917 oh wow. You learn something new every day. Anyway for me after over a century in Western they are as good as indigenous now. We really can’t say they are not part of us. Wanga is very interesting the kings had Maasai mercenaries and parts of Nyanza such as Gem were under his dominion so they had subjects who were not Luhya. On the other hand Luhya sub nations such as the Bukusu had rebelled against the throne. I find it interesting as a pre colonial state.

To be honest people who snatch phones nowadays are far in between and not as often as it was decades ago. Virtually everyone in Kenya has a phone these days. The rat 5:13 io is 1:4 out of a population of 50 million Kenyans. So theft of phones not that rampant.

People need to know that Kenya shares a border with Somalia and Ethiopia and so there are common tribes between these countries. Those Somalis in Eastleigh are as Kenyan as it gets!! They are not Mogadishu Somalis. Quit this nonsense titles please. They create a misleading tone. Somalis are Kenya's 6th largest tribe and occupy one third of Kenya in the North Eastern region. Eastleigh is also not Somali territory but you get many of them there. All types of Kenyans live and work in Eastleigh.
