I lived in Guam for 3 years with my sister. Love the snorkeling but most of the time I was booney stomping out to Talofofo Falls and Inarajan Falls. Coconut Crabs in Guam are pretty big. Found lots of old World War II artifacts in several caves the Soldiers dug out. I even found some live hand grenades that explosive ordinance disposal hand to come get and dispose of. There was one Japanese Soldier still alive in Guam some thirty years after the war ended. I think it was 1972. I lived their from 1979 thru 1981. I remember watching on television a Naval Officer who swam all the way around Guam and during his swim several sharks swam along with him. There are caves out in the middle of the island that most tourist don't ever hike.

You are at Tarague Beach on the extreme Northern coast of Andersen AFB (great place for camping btw). If you keep walking along the coast the direction you were heading, you will eventually wrap around and arrive at the prettiest beach on Guam... Ritidian Beach. And people always want to know why we left the Philippines to live in Guam (paradise). 🌴😎

Can you give any practical advice for Americans who have lived in the Philippines for 9 years, when visiting Guam.?Any recommendations that locals would know? My wife and I will be celebrating our 32nd anniversary and are thinking about going to Guam in December. Thank you.

Is this Ritidian Point? Wondering how the access into the water is? Easy enough to get in and soak in the ocean? Also, do you recommend water shoes or Teva like shoes? Thanks for sharing!

The fighting on Guam in 1944 was even scarier. US troops had to blast every bunker, cave and pillbox in order to clear out the Japanese defending them. They paid a heavy price in blood.
@TravelingTutor2 жыл бұрын
The Japanese troops occupied Guam for 31 bitter months and the brave allied fighting forces are heroes IMO.

Liteyan or Ritidian Beach is where you’re generally traversing. The seas around this area are generally rough w/ rip currents that can pull you over the reef if you’re not careful. The beach is around the northern western coast line. The white sandy beach is some of the best on the island and below the cliffline of Andersen Air Force Base which sits on over 26,000 acres of land stolen from the Chamorro people. This is the chief Air Force base for the Western Pacific region. It is prime real estate for you folks from the mainland that absolutely know nothing about the often forgotten and overlooked colony. Yes folks the Americans stole land from the Chamorro people. Surprised? Don’t be, they did the same to the Native Americans. Oh, by the way every Chamorro you encounter has Native American DNA, meaning the people have double native heritage. You can thank the Manila-Acapulco trade route that frequented Guam as a replenishing route. By the way, those craggy rocks are uplifted limestone not basalt of volcanic origin. The entire northern half of Guam is made of fossilized coral limestone shelf. Over 30 million years old. It was once a living coralline structure. Guam is rising out of the ocean and not subsiding as all the Hawaiian Islands are as a point of reference.
