I have to admit I am so jealous, I will be 77 next year and it has been my dream to own a Rolls Royce. I can only imagine how much of a childhood dream you are having as I am having it with you. A real Rolls Royce in the capable hands of a real enthusiast, good luck with your endeavors.👍

A cracking job by Ed and thoughtful future-proofing maintenance too. With the exception of the specialist welding required here, it is the clear step--by-step approach to these individual jobs that demystifies them into the capabilities of the home mechanic. Well done!

Nice repair of a delicate part of the suspension. Good to see you bought special tools to compress the springs. Probably expensive but worthy. And again, no half work. Good you did both sides. Maby more work but at the end the result is much better.

What a BEAUTIFUL job of work! Again...as I've said before...you continue to use the BEST lighting techniques such that I can understand what you're trying to get across to us. Brilliant! You two gentleman made what is not an easy job...look easy. It was poetry to see this. I've subbed to Ed's Miniempire, and I'm off to see what he gets up to. Much aloha to you both!

I've just started doing a bit of rust proofing on my XK subframes. One corner at a time. After prep decided to use Bilt Hamber Dynax UC in aerosol form for protection. Great stuff to use, gets in to all the nooks and crannies and leaves a nice protective film. Top job by Ed👌.

Brilliant work as usual on the roller. That's going to be one cool motor when you're finished with it. I have a feeling you'll be spending a lot of time in petrol stations though lol.

Well spotted, older Eclass mercs were prone to corrosion in the spring cups. I found out the hard way, driving a 1999 E55 along the motorway, next thing I knew the front drivers side of the car slams into the road and the spring exits at about 70 mph and goes about 100 yards ahead of me along the motorway. The upper Cup had just exploded to nothing, new springs and cups sorted it out but it's frightening when it happens. Funny thing ( well not funny really) was that it had passed it's MOT roadworthy test the week before 😮

@@life_on_cars I was just lucky I was keeping at a steady 70 and the weight of the car kept it in a straight line as it came to a grinding halt, really loving the work you are doing on the roller, it's great that future generations can appreciate these classic cars once they are saved by dedicated people like yourself. 👌👌

Given the age of the car, and the fact it sat idle for quite some time, would it have been advisable to renew the rear springs at the same time? Great job done on the spring cups. Enjoy your Rolls.

My mate Vince , his cups were so rotten he had to replace them for new ones , he couldn’t use the tool to compress the spring as the threaded piece fell apart 😢

Late and stupid question, but do those cups support the lower ends of the springs i.e. the weight of the car please? I'm guessing they're way too flimsy for that!

I'm surprised that you didn't disconnect the battery before welding. There's always a risk of damage to the alternator if you don't do so.

Moving the compressed spring was scary to watch. The damage to automobiles by salting roads should be a criminal offense. Living in an area where salting road ways is forbidden, we have many old cars that still look great with their original paint sixty years later.
