That is a gable end. The lead you found was used to hold a bracket or hinge in place, this was used even as late as the sixties and beyond.

The chapel was built in the 16th century. The bell tower and gabel cross were added later. The pump house was over the old well and provided water to nearby farms.

The frame is all there for a dandy weekend cottage...roof, interior walls (optional) electric, heat, floor, plumbing...move in. The smaller building looks like it was remade for dogs.
