Yes, it's easy to say that (and a lot of us are aware and know how ridiculous the set-up is), but sadly a lot of people who aren't aware of scams and whatnot don't have the ability to think critically/with common sense when they're afraid and feel guilt. In the moment when they're told "you owe X amount of money OH MY GOD it's your fault because you entered the wrong thing!" etc etc when scammers pull their BS they immediately are afraid, and sadly lose the ability to be rational. The scammers know a lot of elderly people don't know all this technical/computer jargon that we know, and they use that to their advantage because it's likely that older people have no idea that they're spewing BS and more likely to believe it all to be true. It's all disgusting emotional manipulation.

Paul Callaway 1 second ago You are a true modern hero! Because of your channel I was able to detect an Amazon iPhone refund scam when they called my wife a year or so ago. I kept telling my wife it's a scam and to hang up when they wanted her to get on her computer. Though frustrated at me, she hung up and called Amazon directly at my suggestion and then Amazon confirmed it was not them calling her.

As someone who works in fraud detection I am so glad that you do this. It breaks my heart seeing elderly groups taking advantage of every day in my job and knowing whatever information I report probably won’t lead anywhere. The worst by far are sweetheart scams though, and unfortunately those are the hardest to prevent.
