This is how we keep these spots open to the public. Great job guys!

Wow that was great visibility. Crazy amount of lures and fishing gear. The pacific ocean thanks you, for the cleanup...

Promoting good stewardship by cleaning up after others to keep our waters pollution (and fishing lure) free is never a bad thing!! More folks should take an afternoon or two with a buddy and hit spots that are frequented by anglers, just to clean up the old fishing line that can become really disastrous to wildlife, not to mention posing a risk to our fellow divers. Too bad about the drone's SD card, might have been some cool footage on it. I hope the In-Laws liked the crab and oysters, it all looked very tasty (I miss BC oysters). I hope you are all ready for the Holidays and that the kids are looking forward to Christmas, so I guess I should throw my comment in too,...Merry Christmas to You and Your Family, Chris!!! I hope you have an awesome time over the Holidays with good food, good people and great times!!! Take care - Dave

good to see star fish making a come back.
@PNWSamson22 секунд бұрын
Starfish have seemed to rebound. Unfortunately, the Sunstar have yet to. Sunstar graze on urchin and urchin are eating up all the kelp without Sunstar to keep them in check. I'm still seeing many urchin barrens without any Sunstar to be seen.

As a fisherman I appreciate you cleaning up all the lost lures and line. I never use braid without a short mono leader so at least if I do lose a lure I'm not leaving a bunch of braid in the water.
@jacktumbleweed23 сағат бұрын
As a fisherman this makes me very happy. I'm very intentional about avoiding snags and doing everything I can to prevent losing gear.

i used to dive in sid /n sannich area , off moses point there is a reef with lots of flashers and downriggers balls ,etc its just out between the point and a offshore rock light marker . we would dive from the marker and reef towards saltspring . a boat to hual up would work best as were so many last dive
@PNWSamson29 минут бұрын
Good to know! I rarely dive the Saanich Inlet. I need to start exploring that area.
@djphilipj18 сағат бұрын
Awesome video. Would love to dive like that.

Yeah, it's a ton of fun. It's also much easier to hold your breath than lug around a bunch of scuba gear.

Damn, you scooped me, haha, I've been planning on diving there for a while for that very purpose, but it's steep and nasty with 130lbs of scuba and camera gear! I'll do it one of these days.
@PNWSamson23 минут бұрын
It had been on my list for a few years too. It looks like it's been a while since anyone dove it. Some of those lures have been down there for a while. Go check it out man! I left lots behind. I was blown away by the spot, way nicer than expected.

It's entertaining to watch you pick up lost lures. Have at it.

I have a hard time jumping in that water during the summer months - watching this made me turn my heat up to 25°C.
@PNWSamson25 минут бұрын
haha. With the proper equipment it's not bad at all. I was steaming when I took my wetsuit off. The water without the wetsuit was for sure cold. I like to rinse off though, wetsuits can be pretty nasty.

At least a few of those are mine. Thanks for retrieving what most cannot.

I tip my hat to you...your commentary is excellent and improves as it progresses. Garbage pick up actually is a bit riveting
@derekcox653120 сағат бұрын
You just picked up hundreds of dollars worth of fishing lures there. Awesome!
@PNWSamson6 минут бұрын
Yeah, hit a little honey hole. I can't believe I found so many. It must have been a while since anyone has dove there.
@GoldVP...Күн бұрын
Lol, all those folks were using the wrong lures! Does no one use spoons out there? Wow that's a drop right away. How deep do you figure that is? My guess would be 45ft, but water can be illusional lol. Fanny Bay area just got hit with a oyster recall, so hopefully that's something that stays local, and can't flow in the tide, a far distance.

So when are you having a tackle sale? If you dive the north end of Sangster you will make a killing on down rigger balls
@briansimpson9371Сағат бұрын
Pretty amazing that these lures are on average 10 or so dollars apiece so that's crazy....

If you ever want to part with those lures, I refurbish old lures with no shiny stickers and paint. If you are just wanting to get rid of a whole bunch, let me know!

This is something that hate while fishing. When i loose Lures i know they are in the ocean forever. I would love the idea of Biodegradable fishing lures and lines
@HalcyonGuitars17 сағат бұрын
Do you need an extra tag on your license to harvest oysters like you do salmon?
@PNWSamson12 минут бұрын
Nope! all covered under your recreation salt water fishing license. Oysters are awesome, especially this time of year when the water is cold.

@stanchlemon476917 сағат бұрын
I believe some fishing lines used to be made with horse tail.
@PNWSamson9 минут бұрын
That's what's needed. organic, biodegradable options. Lot's of those lures I found have a plastic wrap on them. Since loosing fishing gear is virtually unavoidable, manufactures should make their products as harmless as possible.

Don't be ignorant, fishermen are not the problem, after all, you live in a province that still dumps raw sewage into the ocean. That's a far bigger problem.
@PNWSamson14 минут бұрын
No offense, but I don't think I'm the ignorant one. For most people, out of sight out of mind. I'm one of the few who actually see what's happening under the surface. And your logic is a little flawed. You wouldn't ignore diabetes if you were diagnosed with lung cancer. Raw sewage is just one of the many problems plaguing our oceans, doesn't mean we should ignore the 640,000 tons of lost fishing gear that is lost each year.
