Exept for hairpin corners or drifting where would you ever have your steering wheel mor than 160° turned? On tracks you barely ever have to switch grip, you just keep your hands on the 9 and 3 o clock position so left hand is always downshift and right hand always upshift. Also in those rare situations you could just use the shift knob with one hand.

The fact that the paddles dont move with the steering is actually a good thing. Good luck figuring out which is paddle is the upshift when you are at arbitrary rotation of the wheel. Loving the originality of the content. Would be interesting to see this again with some different cars, for example a 981 Cayman S. Not that I just selfishly want to see how my car compares to the 488 of course...I reckon 40 but hard to tell since the headstart exponentially scales with the speed and that's not a lot.

How to subtly flex that you have a cayman s=))
@ApothecaryTerry3 жыл бұрын
@@nedelcumatei9925 I'll always take it as a compliment that people are impressed enough to say it's a "flex" - to me it's a nearly 8 year old used car which I bought because it doesn't depreciate and does 45mpg+ on a run ☺ Genuinely not sure I'd pick another sports car for regular road use even if I had infinite money. If anyone is willing to give me infinite money I'm happy to test that theory (might buy a GTS)...
@perakojot65243 жыл бұрын
You can calculate it easily. You Cayman is 13.6s on 1/4mile, that F488 is 10.1s. So you need to enter with the speed a bit higher than the one your Cayman can reach in 3.5s to beat the Ferrari. That is about 60mph.
@ApothecaryTerry3 жыл бұрын
@@perakojot6524 981CS 1/4 mile is 12.7 but 0-60 isn't quite as good as 3.5 either! Sadly it's also a lot more complex than that- your maths assumes that you're just taking the 0-60 out of the Cayman's 1/4 mile, except if you start at 60 it would do the distance in much less than 10.1 then because it's going to accelerate past the usual trap speed. Starting at 60, the 981CS will accelerate to about 117mph in 10.1s. Allowing for non-linear acceleration, we can assume an average speed of something over 95 (what it's doing after 5s). That means it will have covered about 1410 feet- so would be 90ft ahead at the end. I triple checked acceleration data for the car, plotted it over time and used vectors to calculate the distance. The average speed needs to be 89.1mph, so the starting speed would actually be almost exactly 50mph.
@perakojot65243 жыл бұрын
@@ApothecaryTerry That 12.7s was only reported by car and driver magazine. They test on preped surface (dragstrip) plus remove first feet. And that's a PDK car. No one other managed to get below 13s even on a dragstrip. In the race on unpreped surface like in the video PDK version would probably be around 13.2-13.3s and manual 13.6s. 0-60 is around 4.2-4.3s on unpreped surface. So 13.3s quarter mile means that your car would need to make more distance in 10.1s-(13.3s-4.3s)=10.1s-9s=1.1s travelling with around 115mph than what it makes in 4.2s from a stand still. That is pretty reasonable assumption.

Paddles shouldn’t move with the wheel, they should always be in the same place so you don’t have to fumble around for them mid corner. Alfa, Maserati, and obviously Ferrari are some of the only makes that do this, and it’s the correct way to do paddles, also the steering in the ferraris and Alfa’s are really quick so you don’t even need to turn the wheel that much to make maneuvers. I believe the Alfa Giulia steering rack is less than 2.5 lock to lock, I would assume the 488 has an even quicker rack.
