A series in which I defy logic and reason in hoping that I will eventually enjoy my 2CV. In this episode I finally lose my sense of humor, take a long break and then fix some stuff.

A little window into 2cv ownership. I was toying with the idea of getting one. Hhmm... Thanks for posting the videos.

I think if you were to buy one that's already sorted, you'd have a much easier time. This has been a very good learning experience for me though

Ben you probably know now that there is a small pin hole in the underside of the inlet manifold beneath the Carb. This allows any excess fuel to drain away rather than pool. Nice to see you using the car.

Yes! I'm excited to get it cleared out and see if I can cure my rich idle. Thanks

The foam lined heater tubes are definitely quieter than the others. I wouldn’t worry about wheel balancing, pretty much every 2cv driver I know doesn’t bother and none of us seem to have any problem with it. Interesting to see the pressure test on the inlet manifold, did you temporarily plug the drain hole directly below the carb as it is supposed to be there?

Yea I picked up some foam tubes. Heater works surprisingly well! I had no idea there was a hole in the inlet manifold until someone mentioned it. It would go a long way to explaining why I couldn't dial out the rich idle. I have some wheel vibration at 90-100km/h, but it's not terrible.

The engien sounds like I remember from when I was a young boy, my birth home was next to a BP gas station and they sold Citroen used and some new and they sounded like when you had the engien running last in the video so I think you got it right

Its not the 3 lugnuts that hinder balancing, its the lack of a decent size hole in the wheel centre , the cone on the balance machine is too big and wont fit in a 2cv wheel centre

2CV wheels are designed to auto-balance. At least the 3 holes ones, with a special type of washers (oval and semi cylindrical). The holes are larger than the bolds to accomodate some play when driving. Hopefully the vibrations will start to fade out as the wheels set in place. If you still feel vibrations when driving despite that it means that one of the wheels is out of specs (damaged?) or that there is something not aligned. You can check visualy if the wheels are round by putting the car on stands and rotate them by hand. Also you can replace the suspicious one by the spare wheel and drive to see if the trouble is fixed. Vibrations may also be generated by badly aligned shafts or a problem with the onboard brakes. Of course it's possible to balance 2CV wheels in the shop, and it was done back in the days when people started to use their 2CVs on the highway, but you need the specific adapter to fit 3 holes wheels on the device.

Austin welded in the bung on the downpipe close to the bottom of the car. Unfortunately you can't drive with it in because the front wheel rubs against the O2 sensor on full lock. D'oh!

@@corrieb74 Ooops! I´ll try to set the lamda sensor into the first muffler. Anyway, hope you managed to drive your 2cv meanwhile troublefree. My car is on repair till march, I have to change the gearbox from drums onto the version with diskbrakes an the whole brake system for use with LHM mineral fluid.

It looks like you're in Seattle... have you tried contacting Axel and Uschi at www.2cvsrus.com? They are in Tukwila and specialize in 2CV's, in fact, they sorted out my Charleston a few years back and I was able to drive the car home to San Francisco. I had a similar issue with my carb after changing it last summer from the original Solex to one that I bought from Burton. While everything was factory set and tested before I got it, the idle screw still had to be adjusted as the car would stall in first when I stepped on the gas. I also noticed from your video that you have a very common issue that many of us with 2CV's have regarding the timing. In spite of being timed to top dead center at 1000 rpms, for whatever reason, the degree will shift to the left by one tooth mark on the fly wheel. It's a strange idle but then again, it's a strange car. Don't lose hope, they are simple cars and when properly sorted can be very enjoyable and reliable ;)

Hi Nick. Yea I've spoken to Axel. I finally figured out how to tune the carburetor. Others have pointed out that the manifold is _supposed_ to leak and that there's a small hole that's blocked. That would explain my rich idle. It's running great at the moment. On the timing question, I did spot the recommendation about where to time it and I think that's spot on. Seems to have plenty of power now. I'd love to have Axel do bodywork for me, but he's pretty busy and I'm not planning to keep the car long term.

Did you realize, that there is a little ( aprox. 0,5mm) hole on the input direct under the carburator?
@corrieb74
@corrieb74 3 жыл бұрын
Yea I did notice that, but it's completely blocked. I guess it's there to drain fuel? Instead it just pools there. Would it help to unblock it?
