I do this once a week for my daughter's family. She is currently in a supervisory position in nursing, works 50-60 hours/week, goes to school to earn her nurse practitioner's degree, has a husband, 3 kids and two dogs. I start about 9:30 by doing the grocery shopping, then meal prep, then clean kitchen back up. Finish about 2:30. Anything to lighten her load.

The food is fine??? It can be preserved well. If you are complaining then maybe check the fridge temperature in your house? Mine can keep premade food for a week because it's cold enough Foods that are harder like broccoli, kale and asparagus also are fine to keep in the fridge long periods of time simply because they don't wilt like lettuce which spoils fast Premade food also tends to not have germs which rots it because 1 it was washed prior to being put to heat 2 it was put to heat 3is that she recently bought the food- it wasnt there waiting a week to be cooked. These precautions themselfs can preserve food longer than just being in the fridge for days or even weeks when people forget to cook it in a timely manner. She is abiding to food and safety standards and knows what she is doing Don't take this the wrong way it's just confusing to hear people say this. Germs spoil food faster and make people sick which in some food experiments have some visible results. In a kindergarten class to teach this concept teachers might pass a piece of bread so all the students touch it (just passing it without them tearing or crushing the bread) and then put it in a plastic bag. The teacher also bags a clean bread. Within 3 days the one filled with the kids germs has visible mold and the clean one is still fine because it was touched with clean hands. It's a cool experiment and some photos can be found if you google it. People who work in food know how to keep food fresh long enough and tell the consumers how quickly they must eat it by

My husband does this as a career. He has one full time family he cooks a 3 course lunch for in their house 6 days a week. He also has two other clients he does drop offs for, but does not do the cooking in their home as it can get messy and smelly, which bothers some people. It is one of the best careers outside of culinary school, as long as you find the right families. He is able to be home a lot more, and I am able to be a stay at home mom for our kids (though I am also professionally trained and will pick up the slack for him when I get a chance).

It’s one of the hardest quick research I’ve done, there’s a lot of misinformation out there. My conclusion from various sources is that the longer you leave hot food out the more at risk it is from bacteria. All reasons appear to be myths for letting food cool down before putting it in the fridge. Read up on it more as this is going to take a bit longer to dig through but it def looks like you want food in the fridge ASAP. Quickly cooling down doesn’t matter, it won effect your fridge functioning or effect other food in the fridge. It’s really all about bacteria which doesn’t do well in hot or cold so keep it out of the danger zone(room temperature). Having said all that it’s going to take a couple of hours for bacteria to really thrive so you’re not gonna kill anyone by not putting it in the fridge immediately
@tonymartinez59464 жыл бұрын
aposslex hot food definitely either needs to be cooled for a bit before going into the fridge or put into fridge in thinner layers with lid open until cooled to allow heat to escape. A pot of hot soup for example will spoil in the fridge over night as it will stay hot in the center for hours on end allowing a beautiful home for bacteria to grow 😑 and Yes, certain foods will steam in fridge with lid on.
@aposslex4 жыл бұрын
Tony Martinez yer, I saw some advice as that. I’m not convinced of the exact science so I’ll prob have to just do some practical tests myself
@erasmusb.draggin20224 жыл бұрын
Tony Martinez “A pot of hot soup will spoil... overnight” because the center will stay hot? And you’re saying cooling it on the stovetop lets it cool more evenly? Hmmm... let’s science this. The only way that might make sense is if the fridge-proximate portion of soup cools so precipitously it blocks the evaporation of steam, trapping it in bits of food in the center & thus keeping the central soup area warm. However it’s also true that this might mean slower bacterial growth in the central soup area, as food bacteria does not prefer high temperatures.
@tonymartinez59464 жыл бұрын
Erasmus B. Draggin I was beating too lazy to type much. I was a chef for about 10 years. I spoiled a big pot of pot roast when I was 19 because I put the entire pot in the fridge at closing time (on a wire rack). Food needs to be cooled as quickly as possible. Putting a big batch of hot food in 2” or 4 inch pans then directly into the fridge is totally fine. If putting a big pot in the fridge... it has to be stirred and cooled several times. Basically don’t put a large pot of hot food away. Stir it constantly until it’s cooled down enough to lower the temperature.

This is great and all because I’m sure the parents are busy and can afford this, but that kind of takes the fun out of it all. Like my kids would grow up remembering their favorite dishes as the ones that their personal chef made, not their mamas cooking. It’s also fun to cook with kids and teach them, they love to get involved and before you know it, you’ll have kids making dinner for the whole family by the age of like 10.

I did this job in Australia for a year. It's not that expensive to hire a chef, you only need to pay a normal hour rate. It looks so easy for her, the reality was tough, sometimes to cook 4-5 dishes in an hour or two, plus you need to prep all the ingredients, a lot of cutting, marinate and clean the kitchen. Especially my clients mostly with special dietary and doctors. So they want everything from the scratch, can't buy ready use sauces from market like her pesto😄

Don't add salt in advance with certain legumes as it makes them tough and prolongs cooking time. Grains may not all be the same in this regard either so it pays to do some research and experimentation.
@saraashkir57935 жыл бұрын
Ive cooked dry grains quite a bit like white/brown rice, quinoa and never had an issue with salting those. I think uncommon grains should be researched. But yes, legumes do sometimes get tougher. Tip: if anyone wants to cook tougher beans or peas (black eyed peas, chickpeas, fava beans, etc) soak them overnight in just water, then cook them. If you have a pressure cooker then you wont have to soak them
