The noble leader of the Autobots is immortalized in amazingly detailed 1:10 scale cold-cast porcelain. Each painstakingly handcrafted statue is individually hand-painted with the famous XM quality finish. Crafted from scratch, every nut, bolt and wire is lovingly designed and sculpted ground up by a team in mad love with the Transformers G1 era of cartoons. Inspired by one of our childhood favorite 80s cartoon, we took the G1's iconic form design and XMized them with modern details, to better fit in today's expectations of sophisticated robotry designs. We have spared no effort and designing these original pieces took our core team almost 2 years, resulting in an amazing balance of retro beauty with a sleek modern details. And of course, how can we leave out XM's love of switch out extras? This statue comes with Energon Axe, Leadership Matrix and intricately detailed Cybertron Base and we've even thrown in the Rocket Booster Backpack to give Optimus the added firepower against the Decepticons. I bought mine as the R1 G1 DVD box sets from Rhino, in addition to Beast Wars and Beast Machines. The original animated movie from '86 has been available on Blu-Ray in later years, so you can hopefully still get these if you're old-school and still buy physical discs instead of just streaming TV.

Pilot episode of Gen 1 I believe they all fly, maybe some other early eps. It was later retconned that only the Decepticons could fly and Autobots needed either a jetpack or an alt-mode that was an aircraft.

In the original pilot, all the robots could fly. They decided to keep flight as a power only the Decepticons had as an additional distinction between the factions after the pilot was already in production, but before the series proper got the full green light.

About a year late to answer but, no Autobots were never meant fly without means (I.E. Rocketpacks) or without being airplanes. It was originally meant to distinguish capabilities between Decepticons and Autobots. It also was explained that that was a major contributing factor as to how Cybertron eventually fell to the Decepticons. (THE HIGH GROUND, if you will). The GoBots were all able to fly so to avoid copyright issues. I LOVE THIS VID AND THE STATUE! I miss those days. Thank You for posting

The original cartoon only planed for 4 episodes until Hasbro saw how much people liked it and extended the it to a series.So there where many flaws in the original four episodes that the designers were not sure of.Including the idea of the autobots should fly.

In the very first cartoon episode, every Autobot and Decepticon were able to fly. At some point, I think the next mini-series, it was retconned and only Decepticons were able to fly. For the remainder of G1 cartoon series, Autobots generally could not fly except for some later episodes that had the 2005/2006 Autobots at time flying in space.

while the xm studios are actually pretty detailed and pretty awesome, we've gone so far to the fact that they're supposed to transform and for kids or "kids".
