In the early 80s I worked in the "reserve cash" department of Ameritrust Bank in Cleveland Oh. I operated the coin roll machines and often would find silver coins but one day I poured a bag 💰of quarters in the hopper and noticed a dull ring sound. I ended up getting 256 silver quarters which at that time were selling for $2 each. When doing new from mint bags I found a few nickels stamped on penny planchets. Also off-center stamped error pennies. The worst to roll were dimes because many times they would collapse before getting rolled. We would get bricks of brand new currency and one day I held $800,000 cash in my arms 🤚💵✋

@@QuinsCoins Back in my day, they'd give you 3 quarters 2 dimes and a nickel for a dollar. And the quarters and dimes were all silver. That didn't last long🤣. But getting silver coins in your change always happened way into the 70's. And it's gotten tougher ever since. Good luck on your hunt👍🤞.

@@QuinsCoins watch it youngster....I got my AARP card lol. In the 90's $50 face in quarters easily got you $15-20 in silver, and I've gotten triple that before. No longer an easy game!! Been finding a bunch more Canadian cents since you moved. Don't know if I'm happy about that or not 🤣

I suggest keeping the copper pennies. They are certainly worth over 3 cents per in metal, but it's not just a theoretical thing, they command 1.75 - 2x face on ebay. You can ship $100 face in a medium flat rate box. Canadians sell even higher given the increased purity, but it get complicated with them given the weight difference near the end of the copper era.

I held onto copper for a while but stopped ~5 years ago. It's too much of a pain to move around and not worth it IMO. I remember when I stopped collecting it, people were buying for 1.1-1.3x face- I didn't realize it was up to 2x now! Still- I'll probably keep throwing it back into circulation so more for everybody else :)

One thing for halves: 2021 to present are not NIFC. 2021s were released into general circulation in large numbers, as were 2022, and 2023 had a resounding 30+ million minted from each Mint. Also do you look for DDO halves in the 70s, as well as No FGs on 72-D, 82-P, and 83-P?

I have not gotten any 2024 Pennie’s, Nichols, or dimes. I only got a few 2024 quarters. It is almost November. So they are out there somewhere. I always check my change. I don’t know what is happening. Hopefully, I get a few one day.

Yes- unfortunately, I decided not to go through with them just because I couldn't justify the amount of time/effort it would take to create the kits and ship them out, which is expensive due to the weight. I'd rather just focus on making as much content as I can and putting out quality tools (like my coin mats) which can help collectors!

my jealousy is kicking in here from new zealand, where our latest dated coins in circulation are from 2020, but we do have some 2022 coins in storage, waiting for demand and some 2024 king charles coins being minted for... maybe 3 years in the future. also our oldest coins are $1 and $2 from 1990. ive been watching for about 2 years now and its interesting to see what nz is missing out on by being a small country. keep up the good vids!

The "S" mint nickel would have to be 1954 or older. Only cents and dimes were minted in San Francisco in 1955.

I found two proofs from 1962 the other day. A pretty impaired nickel and a gorgeous penny. The nickel was tough to identify but the penny was OBVIOUS. Nicest old proof I think I've seen outside of a slab haha.
