I am a professional hairstylist . The hairdresser in this video was using incorrect rod tension. The hairdresser should not of used a blow dryer on the young girl's perm. She should of used a diffuser or a hooded dryer. This keeps the freshly permed hair from drizzling and drying out. Brushing a perm is an absolute "no-no". Using your fingers or a hair pick or possibly a wide tooth comb would create better results, along with a non- alcohol based styling product to help put shine and define the curl pattern in the hair. The results would of been totally different. This would create a softer , shinier more professional look.

Friendly Tip: Always comb hair starting from the bottom then work your way up to get through kinks! The beautician is probably adding damage to your hair on top of the chemicals that were just applied, by pulling through from the top to the bottom of the hair.

Wanda McLean I agree to an extent..You absolutely have to use a pick or a wide tooth comb when your hair is wet..and yes there was frizz but I think the ends needed trimmed..But I agree with you about the scrunching...if you don’t use a pick or wide tooth comb then gently go through the hair with your fingers to get out any knots that may be in your hair..This is honestly the curliest perm I’ve ever seen on hair that long..and gorgeous color..

Liberty Hernley I am a white chick with curly hair. My mom had no clue how to style as when I was a kid. I have been come a firm believer in the less you do to your hair the better. My hair has been fried off by other stylists. I started taking hair vitamins and after 4 years got my long hair back. But this time it is healthy. I don’t bleach . I do coloring my regrowth one every 3 weeks. That is how fast it grows. Hair extensions, bleaching , perms are horrible for your natural hair. Perms and bleaching break the bonds that hold hair shaft together . There is a method that the person giving the perm could have done that would have taken less than 20 mins to roll a perfect all over curl. And unwrapping would be more gentle.

if you want curly hair look up “ how to get curly hair using straws” i tried it and it worked amazing everyone thought i got perms and they loved it. it lasts two days if you leave the straws on overnight. all you need is water, straws !
