Hey man, like you I often find it highly annoying when KZbinrs post their grail finds as it so often comes across as gloating and "flexing." The worst is when someone who doesn't even really care for one of my favorite characters brags about acquiring a "grail" that I don't even have. But I found this video to be humble and grateful and I appreciated seeing you be open about the fact that in order to acquire this book you had to sacrifice another legitimate grail that you had owned. It made me very happy for you and glad to see your excitement over getting this Iron Man book instead of feeling like you were bragging to the community. Subscribed.

Congratulations and welcome to the TOS 2.0 family Bry! Very happy for you! Love that grail! About 40 years ago I traded most of my TOS and Iron Man run to acquire my copy (and still paid $100 CAD out of pocket). Now that the house is paid off and I’m in mid-life mode, I decided to try and reacquire what I gave up to finish my grail run. I finished it (and the first 20 of the solo run) last year… but now I’m off chasing a few other Silver grails. Such is the hobby!

Great pick up Bry. Displays fantastic. I like your back cover damage rationalization. I agree w/ that thought process, personally. The way I look at the trade off w/ your books...I "COULD" possibly find a GSX 1 in the wild....I'm sure I would "NEVER" find a TOS 39 in the wild....just based on print runs and age.

That's awesome, such a great book. For my part I like the videos where people show off their grail acquisitions. For me its more of an example from real people that are in the hobby just like me that are inspiring others by showing them what is possible with a little hustle. That being said I look forward to your videos and truly appreciate the analysis that you do along with them.

Really nice aquisition... I spend my days hunting down anything featuring Venom, all while aquiring graded issues of Amazing Spider-Man between #1 & #300. Suffice to say, I've got some grails ahead of me. That being said, collecting comics is a lot like collecting tickets at an old 80's arcade. Once you've aquired enough $50, $100, and $150 books, you'll eventually have some books to leverage against that more expensive grail atop that next horizon. Thank you for sharing your books and your passion. It'll be collectors and content-creators like yourself who will sustain this remarkable hobby whenever the market slips back into a momentary lull. Keep hunting... And never ignore a CGC shipping-box along the highway! 😉

Fantastic pickup, my man! What you said about those lower grades and their presentation is spot-on. I recently picked up Batman 121 in a CGC 1.8 grade, and it presents pretty well. It has a detached cover, but that actually helped the presentation at that grade I think, as that cover detachment downgraded the book, but the cover has no tears or anything. Sometimes a flaw in the book (like your tape pull on the back) can actually help presentation on an affordable, lower grade book. But anyway, awesome book, and it went to a great guy!

Now that is a true grail book and thanks for posting. It does present very well for the grade. I'm impressed the spine is in very good shape, not all ratty as many fanboys back in the day held the book by the spine in the fold of their hand as it was read. I have a reprint that I bought on eBay some time back. I doubt that I'll ever have an original copy but I can dream can't I? What I do have is a UK/Pence variant of TOS #40 and man, are they rare as per the CGC census. Keep it up Bry, you're becoming a person of note and your open, easy and informative approach will do you good. Best to all and Make Mine Marvel.

When you said the prices for a 7.0 I was shocked. My copy is a 7.0 but the previous owner trimmed the corner slightly so it got a restored grade. I figure it's worth about half of the unrestored grade. But still I only paid $4000 for it 2 years ago.

I'd make that deal too, Giant Size X-Men for TOS 39! I know the feeling you're talking about with kind of being in awe of a book in your presence vs seeing on a screen from across the internet.
