I remember the day I got my mandolin from Wayne Henderson back in 1978. I thought it was the prettiest mandolin I had ever seen and I still do to this day. It is also the best mandolin I have ever heard and I have played 3 Loars and heard others. It was 750 dollars in 1978. Even though it has aged wood, your new mandolin will continue to get better as it is played.

Too many people fail to credit the craftsmanship and love that individual musical instrument makers put into their work. Not so with these wonderful young musicians. There are centuries of knowledge, tradition and dedication passed on by supporting the folks who are both artists in craft and the music that brings a purity to the joy of the music. Not mass produced in a factory, but created by hands of love and skill. God Blessed us with these things.

I know exactly how you feel. I had that feeling when I got my $5000.00 archtop jazz guitar back in 1990. In today's dollars it would be probably be around $8-$9.000.00. It played like a dream. I still remember the smell of it the first time I opened the case. The smell of lacquer and the feel of the neck the first time I held it. It was magical. Then there was the sound and the response...wow. You will treasure this moment the rest of your life.

Congrats Savio. BTW you and Cecilia really rocked on 'Escape from Taiwan'. Her backup playing skills - especially with tricky rythm - blow me away. I'm super proud of you both! I bought myself a new Washburn Mando a few years ago after I mastered a Bach Cello Sonata. My grandson will get my old inexpensive Kentucky. He is 5 and was watching you and Cecilia perform and he was looking with keen interest. I really love the sound of your new Hicks. One of these days - probably if I ever retire - I'm going to sign up for some Sierra Hull classes. She and Adam Steffey are 2 of my three favorite mando players (:-)
