I'm a hairdresser but before that I was a very frustrated client so I make it a point to listen very carefully to my clients and either show them pictures or have them bring me pictures to make sure we're on the same page

that’s not what i really expected from a pastel mermaid... it’s not mermaid at all, not really pastel either. like it looks like a combination of grey and purple, which is cool, but so many people have done this by now it just doesn’t look fresh. from all of the hair trends this one got real boring real quick. and the name doesn’t fit at all. imagine mermaid hair: it’s like bright vibrant reds, blues and greens. and pastel colours are soft pinks, violets and blues. and you could’ve done some crazy mermaid colours at the top and kinda make a gradient into softer pastel colours, making just a beautiful combination of colours of your choice, but this one just looks a lil dull and just not interesting at all. at least, to me.

In order to achieve the purple that was put in her hair you have to bleach it and then tone out the yellow before you put any fun colors on her hair... if they put the purple on her natural hair you would not see any change what so ever... and she started with about a level 2 and left at about a level 7 so no she doesn’t have hair as dark as her natural

The color has to grab. They have to remove all the black hair pigment/hair color and then deposit new color for it to come out deep and the way they want

@@RiRiSmi It's not pastel, its gray and purple. It's extremely cool. And it makes the pink undertones in her blemishes stand out. If she wanted to do pastel she should have done pinks or corals something with a little warmth. Even purple can be warm if it's a different tone. The color doesn't enhance her beauty at all. But it doesn't make her look unattractive.

This was just one of the basic versions of pastel mermaid hair and she didn't go for any dramatic colours. It made her feel beautiful and happy and that's what matters most.

If this client was in my chair and told me she wanted pastel mermaid hair on a silvery base, I would have done a second bleach on her hair focusing on the midshaft and any egg yolk areas that didn't lift to platinum. I would bring her up to a level 10 neutral blonde and then tone it with a light silver-beige so as not to go to a muddy pewter, which is what happened. Once she was toned, I would add the blues, turquoises and greens, purples, neutral, and pinks in various levels of brightness, some pastel and some vivid. The color that came out was much too dark and much too drab. It removed vitality from the girl and added years.

This is the only transformation I’ve seen that’s flawlessly done, the end result is beautiful. It’s just not what she described what it might look like from the beginning but that’s just lack of articulating from a client, that happens often (professional stylist POV)

I got this same exact hair color, gray with some purple, after bleaching it myself and dying it blue, ironically.
