I GOT A PUPPY! Picking up my Kooikerhondje Puppy Vlog

LIFE UPDATE! I got a puppy. And not just any puppy, a Kooikerhondje. For those who know, know. For those who don't know, the Kooikerhondje is a pretty rare breed, originally from the Netherlands. I've wanted a Kooikerhondje ever since I saw them in a book about Dog Breeds when I was around 10. They have never left my mind and when the universe told me it's time, I listened and took action. Finally, my 10 year old's dream has come true and I have my own angel baby: Finnly. Make sure to follow him on Instagram at @finnlythekooiker because he is a STAR!!
PS: this vlog is for my memories, I'm not interested in comments about dogs and caretaking and whatnots. I say this because ever since I got Finn, people seem to inform me of their opinions nonstop about dog characteristics, raising dogs, whats right whats wrong and on and on and on. I mean this politely, I don't care :D I know what I'm doing, research has been done, everything is ethical, we are happy :D

I'm so happy to see kooikers getting more recognition!!! I adopted a Kooiker runt ( he was so tiny, even at 3 months, he was less than 3lb) almost 6 years ago. He's the goofiest of our pack! He isn't as tall as the other kooikers but he makes up for it with his speed, agility, and loyalty!

Mines a rescue we got at 5 years old but I can’t lie it’s been tough :( He resource guards like crazy to a point where he will bite and nip you, barks at every dog viciously in the street, pulls on the leach and lunges at people that even go near us :( He’s such a sweet dog sometimes and so so clever and loves belly rubs and somehow likes being cuddled. Anyone of those traits in yours? Maybe the previous owners messed him up a bit :(

I had a kooikerhondje for 14 years, he passed away this past spring😢 Truly the most sweet, loving and funny dog. You made the right choice, enjoy your journey with him❤️

Very common breed in my country the Netherlands but unfortunately i am not a fan of their temperament,a lot of nervous and aggressive individuals among them.But i do love their look though.

This is so true, I got mine from a shelter in france when he was 5. The most reactive dog i've ever seen or had. Will lunge and try to attack people, children and other dogs on the street and barks non stop at everything. Will bite me too if he's guarding something. Can't have relatives or friends over anymore because of him. I know they're not all like that but I still don't recommend them to anyone. They are cute though not gonna lie lmao ;).

Temperament is a lot better in the USA but reactivity is still fairly common. Aggression seems to travel in several lines that came from the puppy mills/backyard breeders some of the breeders imported from in the Netherlands.

You are so lucky! They are amazing dogs! Finn will chase after everything at the beginning, but they will calm down. My friend has had one since 2019. She's so lucky!

How exciting! I got the carrier from the breeders, but it was the Delta carrier. Size was perfect, and training in general is going great! Potty training took quite a while tho

Contact the VHNK. Dutch breeders like Quanak’s Favor. In the USA they are roughly $3000-4500.

They're not breeding anymore! That was the first and only litter they had, do you still want their info?

Dreamcatcher is in Florida and the only breeder actively breeding that I know of. Most buyers have to travel out of state. Waterbound in Texas also is a breeder and has a co-breeder in Florida but they don’t breed constantly because they have only a few dogs.

No! At this size he easily fits into a doggie carrier. You just have to pay the fee

Yes. They are called a “Small Dutch Spaniel” if you wanted an English name. But it isn’t accurate. Small decoy dog is what Kooikerhondje translates to.
