I feel like if your a hairstylist you should be able to do any style any race anytime any place. I have had different people do my hair before when I was still perming my hair I can actually get a nice style to last. But when I went natural I got someone from a Walmart salon to cut my hair. Then I went to different barber shops to get my hair shaved down in the back. When I started growing my hair out from my style I went black salons and told them I was natural and wanted to stay natural so I thought they was washing and deep conditioning my hair. I thought she straightened it and curled it up. Come to find out she permed my hair without my permission. So I had to wait for my perm to grow out and start over again. Everytime I would go to the salon and ask for a style they would never give me what I wanted so I just stopped going altogether. My hair fell out and my sister started finding natural styles to do on my hair and my hair started growing back healthy, strong, and thick.

Smartstyle if it was isn't a bad place to work. Just has bad reputation because of inexperienced stylists and walmart seeming like the place to go to get things cheap. Most of the time people work there to get clients then leave.

@@jimmynava000 yess this is exactly what I was just saying...hate that it's always considered working at Walmart or the Walmart salon bc it's not... Still paying thousands of dollars in student loans to get that license! LoL I worked at one for almost 2 yrs bc it was basically built in clientele! ALot of people wanted that Walmart price tho 😵🤭
@jimmynava000
@jimmynava000 5 жыл бұрын
@@carriemertens6741 I always mad at point to separate the salon and walmart and not budge on pricing. Dont want to pay then go somewhere else. Stylists have the same license anywhere they work maybe smartstyle is just the most convenient place to work. I remember thinking smartstyle sucked in beauty school. All it is, is a leased space on contract with walmart. That's it.

Lois Samantha YES!! I’m Mexican and went to Paul Mitchell and they literally never taught us how to do braids, weave, or even simply wash and blow dry textured hair. I dated a black guy in highschool and his mom used to teach me to do his younger sisters hair. Even after years I sucked compared to the mom but it's definitely something you can learn with hard work. When I see tight braids like this that don't pull too much anywhere I'm always so impressed. Mine always had some errors in it and took a long time to just get decent. I loved adding decorations to her hair though, it was actually really fun. It never looks as good on people who don't have afro hair. The braids just can't turn out looking as clean and nice. I would wear braids like this if I could.

Like I know my teach said she was the one white girl in her friend group in highschool, they taught her how to do the braids and they had her feel their hair and feel an idea of it. It wasnt ment in a wierd way, they just wanted her to know as a skill.

@@squidneythesquid2487 Wrong. Many white people have problematic hair, just different issues - thin, frizzy, greasy, limp and won't hold curls, etc. Some whites have course hair. Others, frizzy. Others, barely there, super thin hair. White people's hair isn't enviable at all. None of the weave shops sell Caucasian hair because no one wants it. I hate when Whites try to feel superior when nothing about them is worthy of having a superiority complex. And no, I don't wear weave. I have 20-22 inches of long, wavy, natural hair and I'm a dark-skinned African-American woman (since people are mentioning race).

For all the white people asking “why does it matter” a majority of hair care and stylists cater to you. There are no stylists in my area for miles that can work with my natural hair, they end up completely butchering it into a frizzy mess. Natural hair care often isn’t taught in beauty schools, so unless it grows out of your head or you live in a diverse area, chances are a white stylist will have no clue how to work with natural hair. A real hair stylist should know how to work with all hair types, not just straight “white people” hair.

@@mercuryMAYAN Textured hair is wavvy or curly hair, it's just that Afro hair tends to be on the more extreme type of textured hair so that term usually is reserved for just Afro hair. Regis didn’t have any training on Afro hair other than relaxers. Weave and sew-in styles wasn’t even listed on the menu. So buyer beware!

I have serious respect for all the work that goes into these hair types. I brush mine and it goes in a ponytail, none of the extra work and care.

This!! She did a great job and I'm here for Ericka knocking that stigma of white women can't do 3/4 type hair🙌🏾. I checked out her page and I live nowhere near Illinois I just needed to see the rest of her work😆.
