One could argue that Bjorn's livelihood (and current financial problems with his house) depend heavily on EVs and EV related sponsorship. He isn't going to bite the hand that feeds him. And Marcusbil is a significant source of such content. He does make great videos and is the source an extensive EV data but if/when the Norwegian EV bubble pops he's screwed.

Perhaps one of the reasons things are apparently dire of used EV sales in Finland is that it gets pretty cold there and EVs are useless is very low temperatures. Remember the Danish guy with the electric toaster under his EV to warm up the battery? ( he succeeded btw 🤣) It's amazing how things go backwards. Once upon a time Volvos and Saabs were built by Nordic engineers to work in Nordic Countries, but now globalisation and financialisation mean that cars are built by mad idealogues and greedy accountants (to work in the dreams of E.U. bureaucrats & Californian Lefties.)

Sounds about right. I'm in the U.S. state of Arizona. The HOTTEST state in the U.S. 115 degrees F for 4+ months a year. I have a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis (large V8 rear wheel drive gas powered car) That I bought 11 years ago, with 87,000 miles on it. It now has 381,000 miles, and nothing serious has gone wrong with it. About a year ago, I bought a like new one owner 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis with only 36,000 miles on it. I paid $10,000 USD cash. I have since put another 8,000 miles on it, and was recently offered $13,000 USD for it. I turned it down. I wouldn't take $20,000 USD for it. Nice older gas powered cars are definitely going up in value here. You can't even get a new gas powered vehicle here that isn't loaded with spy devices, a 24/7 WiFi connection to the manufacturer, and a driver interference system that can take control of the car away from the driver. People are desperate to get nice older normal cars. I'm glad I have mine.

I'm also from Finland, and this kind of headline would NEVER make the news here, as most of the media is praising the EV gospel with absolutely zero criticism. I just red a story yesterday about EV sales dropping, on one of the biggest public media service website, but I have to say that article still had more than less pro-EV tone. They had dug up all kinds of 'economists' and 'experts' for weighting in, how this is just temporary drop and such. Not a single word about the EVs being failure-prone, not providing their promised range and not being too expensive for regular folks. The same media covered a story about Toyota some time ago, and the message in that story was basically that Toyota 'couldn't' keep up with the EV race, rather than they 'decided' not to focus too much on it. That said, my wife traded her car last February. A diesel into diesel. I traded mine last March. A diesel into another evil diesel.

I haven't seen this downturn in EV car prices here. In-fact I think prices are normal compared to the rest of Europe, which is generally more expensive than the UK. The cheapest 2019 Model S with 75K KM or less, on NettiAuto starts at 49K€ (approx £41K) so I don't understand the trade-in offer that Geoff discussed. The fact that this email is from Finland brought to mind an issue that I cannot say that I have ever heard mentioned with regard to BEVs. Namely, that as a matter of physics low temperatures increase a battery's internal resistance and therefore impedes the release of energy, i.e., at below zero degrees Celsius, a battery looses around 80% of its charge. Furthermore, it is considered dangerous to recharge a battery in temperatures of -5 C or below per battery manufacturers themselves. This applies to all types of battery and has been a known fact for well over a century, hence the reason that early 20th Century electric cars powered by lead-acid batteries never took off and were gone by about 1910. For some strange and unfathomable reason, EV fanboys in either the mainstream media or online media never seem to mention this particular downside to BEVs which must really be the elephant in the room whenever the compulsory imposition by government of electric vehicle ownership is mentioned, particularly in Canada and the Scandinavian countries.
@typhoon320i
@typhoon320i Ай бұрын

I was concerned about parking my rented Ford Focus (petrol 6 speed) in the underground garage with the Teslas parked there plugged in. As a tow truck driver in the states, i've noticed there are two types of EV owners, ones that regret buying one as they find out it's not what they were told it was and can do/does, and those that force the smile, still telling people to buy them and that they're the greatest thing ever as we tow them to a shop with something like 10k to 50K in repairs that a regular ICE car would have cost 1K to 10K to fix and have to drive a ICE rental car for months and months till they can afford the repairs, find someone that will work on it or buy another EV. Edit, I'd like to add that we've never towed a Lucid or Rivian yet with any issues, but i did tow a Rivian to a super charger when the owner ran out of juice and the charger said it would take about a hour and 10 minutes from 0% to 80% at a estimated cost of $80 dollars and range of 220 miles. If they choose to let it charge to 100% (which said it would take about 2 hours and 30 minutes, this does change from time to time depending on the power demand on the grid at said time, and also note that some charging will turn off without notice if not enough power can go to them at said time, I've been told Tesla's are really good at keeping up with this when it happens but other makes like GM, Kia, Ect.... may take up to 6 hours to update the system when looking for charging space) would be at a cost of $157 dollars, It costs me $136 to fill up my Ram 1500 and i can go 520 miles where as they're paying $157 and only going 390 miles. I just paid $41,600.00 for a new 2025 Ram and they told me they paid $84,300.00 for their 2024 R1T. I'm sorry but where is common sense here??? If you own an EV. The best option IMO is drive it until it dies. Im in the US and I've considered an EV for my next vehicle. Most of my driving is local and it would be ideal for that. I'm not concerned about range or recharging time for trips. If my wife and l go on a trip we will simply rent a car for that time period. What concerns me is the added cost for the system to charge at home. Another thing with EVs. If the government dogooders insist on shoving them down our throat they could at least force one standardized charging plug.

Now, as a man with short arms and deep pockets my ears pricked up. I will be 65 next birthday so how does the second hand EV market place look for someone like me. Do used EV's cars devalue at a simaler rate. If yes then which could possibly best value. Currently drive 2 litre diesel Kuga with 40k on clock. Annual mileage is now about 8k so the current car could see me out. But there has to be a point where using the market value does make sense. Just to be clear, "Climate Change" is BS!!! But I also like to keep my money helping me. So is there a switching point when the cost over shame of driving an EV becomes worthwhile. Look forward to hearing your thought. Be lucky stay safe.

Yes an EV can make sense if you buy used and offer them stupidly small amounts and keep offering them the money until they take it or do eventually sell it elsewhere. If you can charge at home with the car far enough away from the house just in case it does catch fire it wont burn the house down at the same time. Only do fairly short distances then it may make sense. 2L diesel Kuga with just 40k is a lifetime car. That engine will do 300k easily.

Manufacturers are in a very tricky spot. EVs are very expensive so they're having to pretend they're making their brands 'premium'. Thing is, if you're paying £38,000 for an electric corsa, it's not a premium car and never has been. China will absolutely dominate with cheap electric cars that your every day person will buy and a lot of manufacturers will go under or merge. There's only so many 'premium' electric car brands that can actually exist.
