Grotle is such a good encounter for that game getting it that early will allow you to access its best possible moves. It would suck if you got a clefairy because then you would need a moon stone. While clefable is a good tank it can't express very good offensive pressure unlike torterra in short grotle is a good encounter.

My mum mistook a female Hippopotas as a shiny, so you're not alone. She also mistook an alolan Rattata for a shiny, and a regular Dratini for a shiny because the Pokéball sparkles when you encounter a Pokémon, so she's not exactly the brightest person lmao.
