It honestly grinds me too as someone who grew up on and off the poverty line his joke was perfectly fine. Most of the time too it's a middle class person getting upset for us and the poor people who are very materialistic. Middle class and rich people are very hated by some of the poor, which is understandable to an extent. So the toxic few use anything they can to make anyone "above" them look bad. But for people who do not have the luxury of materialistic things, we really have A LOT of people who are materialistic but act like they aren't.
