Just realized that the developers dropped an easter egg for this game in House Flipper. Whenever you tried to sell something that someone owned it would tell you "We're not playing Thief Simulator, I don't want to make money this way"

Outside of jail and the darkweb, probably the closest there is to a "professional thieves' forum" would probably be pen testers. Pen testing (penetration testing) is basically professionals that companies hire to break into their own facilities (Either digital hacking, direct physical penetration, or both) in order to find all the ways to steal everything the company values and cares for. They then provide a report with evidence showing how they did it, so the company can secure itself in case someone decides to do the same stunt for self-enrichment purposes. Most tend to use social engineering, simple tools and gadgets, and very common keys (Like fire service elevator keys that are defined by statute) to non-destructively breach defenses.

It's actually legally mandated for companies in certain industries to have regular pen tests to ensure some random guy off the street can't, say, sneak into Lockheed Martin with an empty pizza box and an Otis badge and slip out with a complete blueprint for the F35 fighter jet. Having a signed contract from the owner of the premises makes the difference between prison and a paycheck if you get into the business of breaking and entering.

Watched this play through when I was like ten and just came back here after having played through the game twice and just having started playing the sequel. This game will always be special to me. The only content in the first game is the farming campaign I’ve played through like half of it. I actually know someone who gets payed to do eletronic security pen tests. Basically IT hacking to see how secure their systems are and how vulnerable their customers information is. The stories I hear are hilarious. Companies are so snub about their firewalls and he just comes in like "yeah, so I was able to access over 800 customers accounts plus 50 employees and all the company bank information" Company "You've only been here for a day?!" I'm a professional thief. What you want to do is when you see something you want, you press and hold the A button to suspend the object in front of your face with your telekinetic powers. Then, you go stand behind a building or large object and crouch for an uncomfortably long period of time until your stealth meter says you are hidden. Then you simply add the item to your inventory. And voila! The item now belongs to you. Because object permanence doesn't exist to anyone else but you with your sneaky sneaky stealy powers.
