I am Brazilian and feel deeply sorry and ashamed with this situation. I have to say, Rio and Sao Paulo are really dangerous cities. I am from Amapá and the chance of this happen to you here are minimals. Brazil is a beautiful place with a warm population and culinary but we suffer from organized crime and corruption. Dont ever come without guidance, period. I hope youre good, midbeast. Thanks for giving a try to our country. Sadly we failed you.

Really sad to see this happen, however, so many people from developed countries come to Latam and think danger is just like normal "big cities". Many people visit and travel around without any trouble yet when something bad happens... it is really bad like in this case. He got lucky he wasn't kidnaped or physically hurt. In the end the most important thing is that he is safe. Lets hope he recovers soon. And Brazil still a beautiful country worth visiting.

Went to Sao Paulo a few months ago, I do international sales, I could feel it was all wrong, I did not step outside my hotel room, I went to a few other cities, way different feel, still dangerous, but sao paulo is a different animal, best of luck recovering!
