Nah lud is right. If you're so far removed from your heritage you only have random percents and you don't even know where you're from then it doesn't really matter. But if you're first generation and or your family is keenly aware of their culture and where they come from and are raised on that it's a different story. Like my dad was a first generation american from two swedish parents and they used to go over and have met their cousins etc before and are pretty immersed in swedish stuff. But like even tho I do sweedish stuff every so often I don't really do much of anything with it or even particularly care about it so I wouldn't really refer to myself as like super sweedish or anything. Where as I have cousins (my dad's sisters kids) who are pretty much all danish citizens also and have spent a lot of time on Sweden and Denmark (their father is a first gen from Denmark) and being Danish is absolutely part of their culture and who they are. Like it really really depends on how many roots you even have to your past or how even involved or not you are. Like if you're some random guy in NY who's 15% Irish and doesn't know anything about Ireland or it's culture you really shouldn't be calling yourself Irish imo.

Lud is completely right. I am a first generation American who us mixed (Honduran & White) and I find myself cringing when friends try and relate culturally on the basis that they’re 1/8 Latin. It’s not the same in the slightest. They don’t look mixed + they haven’t experienced any of the culture. It’s white people trying to claim minority status versus people who experience all of it. Being mixed, the culture of both sides, and being racially ambiguous = not really fitting in a one single place.
@volundrfrey8962 жыл бұрын

9:06, sorry I’m commenting on so many of your older vids BUT I’m leanin more towards Luds side on this because I appreciate that he acknowledges his ethnic background rather than undermining that by claiming nationality to encompass who he is. It’s good to express pride in our roots and how we got to where we are 😌 that isn’t to say “boo QT doesn’t appreciate culture or her roots” it’s more to express appreciation towards someone who stands as an example of the importance there is behind knowing your roots. I’m a person of color and take pride in the aspects of my ancestral roots and think more people should look into theirs! Not only is it interesting but in a way it in a funny way connects us by acknowledging that we’re all different beyond just physical attributes. ☺️
