It's a John Mayer decision and watching this video and Trogly's reactions and thoughts, kind of reinforces my suspicions that John is a bit of a prat (not knocking his playing). Gig bag being a big issue but his logic is that it's easier to carry around so people can just take it and play it? Which is kind of nonsense really, especially given the cheaper price of a gig bag over a hardshell, if people want the gig bag they will get one and it will be easier on the customer (making them more likely to buy the Sky, could even bundle a gig bag bonus for extra if they want). Ordered my Lunar Ice shortly after the PRS event and can't wait to check it out in person! As much as I LOVE these guitars, I really wish they had mother of pearl bird inlays similar to certain Private Stock models. The current inlays are still very Strat-esque, which some might like, but I'd definitely prefer MOP inlays. I love PRS Silver Sky guitars - and my PRS Special 22 - but feels like a missed opportunity. I doubt it would hurt PRS's margins all that much. Less expensive than a hard case and I would personally value more. I bought one of the first 500 Silver Skys back in early 2018. The first 500 models sold came with a hardshell case and I, without a doubt, would prefer the gigbag, even though the hardshell looks cool with the John Mayer Signature metal plate. It's insanely heavy, so it's impossible to carry around, even though the guitar itself is lightweight. Only reason I don't sell this silver sky for one with a gigbag, is my sentimental value of the guitar. Also, that really isn't a low quality gigbag, it's the best in its class, and they've obviously only made it better as you can see in the video. Also also, This isn't prs' choice, but Mayers, his Fender signatures also came with a gigbag.

I got my prs jm nebula last year... still love it! I will say I love the color of this one with the maple fretboard...I also put a small piece of foam under the volume and tone knobs to create more "friction" especially the volume knob because I constantly hit it when I play

I have a Silver Sky in Dodgem Blue, with a rosewood board, and a SS in Midnight Rose, with a maple board. I much prefer playing the rosewood one, and looking at the maple one. It’s kinda weird, because I’ve taken 2000 grit sandpaper to the back of all of my gloss guitar necks, besides the SS. I usually much prefer a satin finish, on the neck, but the SS doesn’t bother me, like their other models do. I’d NEVER pay a premium for a paint color though. That’s kinda ridiculous to me. I payed cost for both of my SS’s. That was enough for me.
@arn9993 жыл бұрын
Looks great 👍. I always thought the original SS colors were pretty bland. The Nebula and this are great. Too bad they’re so limited that they become unreasonably pricy.

@7:55 wow that seems really low I’ve had two silver sky’s now and the lowest was 6.4 at the bridge. I’d check all the solder points you have to be washing off some heat somewhere for it to be that low

Lacquer looks a lot better on maple but the reality is that satin finish plays astronomically better. So aesthetics aside, it's just a better player choice. The day the lacquer started to wear off my custom shop tele the guitar really started playing well. Just my two cents. Also, as for the gig bag, I think that's another player-centric choice since gig bags make more sense for gigging players. That said, being a limited release, this prob should've had a hard case since I doubt most people who buy these will actually play them out or use them as proper instruments

It is a beautiful and incredible guitar. These days I decided on the PRS fiore because I think it is much more versatile. What bothers me, not about the guitar, is that you spend $2,500 and PRS gives you a cheap, shoddy case instead of a strong wooden one.
