Mice and rats don’t get enough appreciation! They are so good for the ecosystem providing sustenance for small predators, cleaning up scraps and even keeping insects in check! The environment looks great and so beautiful! I would love to have adorable mice and rats but my mother is afraid of them so it’s just bunnies for me. Lol. That being said I am the usual person to call if anyone has a “rodent problem” to be fair I’d do the same with insects and just let them be or move them outside. ^^

Having had deer mice along fancy mice for a few years now I will say handle the wild ones them while you still can. They will quickly become curious and jump off of things. It is recommended that while handling them you do it in a room with the doors closes and doors/vents blocked off using towels etc that they can not get under. This will make getting them much easier WHEN they escape. I use sliced almonds as treats and most of them will come to me carefully taking the tip of the almond then running off somewhere to eat it. You can get them into mesh cups most of the time using treats. I use a divided tank setup with a small hose connecting the two and this makes it much easier to push them out of one area and into the other. You may want to make a hole in the mesh top and have a rubber radiator hose 3 to 6" connecting your old and new tank. 6" is about the maximum as they will start chewing the inside eventually making a hole and escaping if it is more then 6". If they can see the end they generally won't chew the middle. Because you can't handle them applying ivermectin can be tricky. I lightly spray the new bedding with a 1/5 ratio. Then I use a toilet paper tube and cut the top slightly before draping a small washcloth over the top and attach it to the tube. I wet down the washcloth with the 1/5 ratio then force them from one tank to the other and everyone gets a bit on there back. I then remove the tube and discard it so they don't chew the tube and washcloth.

They’re so adorably cute and tiny! I also had no idea I could use a Sharpie marker to mark tails! This will help me SO much with my white mice. Is it just the black or can I use a different color for each? A tip that you may not know for the suction cup issue: Try rubbing just a bit of Vaseline on them before pressing firmly in place. I can’t remember where I got the tip, but it’s helped me with the ones in my reptile enclosures. I hope it helps you, too. ☺️

I have harvest mice they are so amazing and curious and so cute! I have 3 brothers from same litter, no problems, and after 6 months I had to separate them due to fighting - one lost tail. Unfortunately they can be aggressive and they are going for tails and ears :( . Another thing I have noticed is that they can get their legs wrapped in the rope so I suggest putting into enclosure pumice stone - it will help them trim their ‘nails’! Good luck and I cannot wait for more content!

So cute, I so want some.I had a rescue wood/field mouse called Magic. He was really small too. He was probably around 3 weeks old when I got him. He was a watch and don’t touch type, but he would come right up to the front of his enclosure to see me. He didn’t like it when I would look down through the top and would always hide when I did, especially when I was taking the lid off to feed and water him. Right after I got him he would escape his enclosure but as soon as I seen him out and stood up he’d run back in. He was such an adorable little soul. Unfortunately he passed at around 8 months, I’m not sure what happened because he’d been fine the night before but he was lethargic and panting the following morning and by the time I emptied his enclosure to get him out he’d passed. I loved that little guy ❤️
