Thank you for going to an actual tattoo shop for the septum and s/o to the piercer for checking your anatomy and being so kind! For anyone wanting to get piercings please go to a professional I know it's been said a million times in this comment section but please don't risk your health at the possibility of a "cheaper" piercing. I'd also like to add in my experience piercings have been cheaper and done better (obviously) at tattoo shops. Also, septum piercings typically should not be extremely painful after the initial piercing, of course soreness and tenderness are to be expected especially if you bump into it or move the jewelry but nothing excruciating that lasts for days, weeks, or months. Most piercers can find the sweet spot, so it only hurts for a moment. her she did incredible this is for anyone curious or wanting to get their septum pierced

My septum was also really smooth! I had a great piercer who took their time making sure it was the best placement for my anatomy. The initial piercer was a sharp pain but once the jewelry was in, it mostly just felt weird because I had a foreign object in my nose but it never hurt. I kept it clean and flipped up while it was healing and didn’t have any pain at all. It was a great experience! I also went to an actual shop with an experienced piercer.

Maybe I'm biased as a septum piercing haver but i think the piercing really suited him! It really did work with the hat lol. Also I'm so glad you finished the video by going to a professional piercer, lots of people have pointed out the problems with the guns- but also, just wanted to say I've gotten pierced/tattooed at a few different tattoo places/gone in to shop for jewellery and everyone who works there has always been super nice! Speaking as an introvert with social anxiety who was more scared by not seeming 'cool enough' to be there than the pain my first few times... If you want to get tattooed/pierced but have any anxieties I'd even recommend messaging your artist/piercer beforehand to let them know. When my friend with ASD got their first tattoo the artist booked then for a time when they'd be the only customer so it wouldn't be too overwhelming ❤

Also, the people who give piercings in tattoo shops are specialists. They know how to keep you calm, and they have techniques where the piercing is done before you're even aware of it. You can also return at any time if you think you're developing an infection (which is less likely with a sterile needle).
@leademi13879 ай бұрын
Yes, go to a tattoo parlor because their piercers are trained and tattoo parlors have strict sanitation guidelines. And it's far more painless than the guns which can catch, rip, and scar easily. Plus the jewelry are of a higher quality. I have gotten so many infections from mall piercing jewelry in my ears compared to from a parlor. Also, do not pierce a child's ears. Piercings should always be done with the consent of the individual getting them.

@heycaseydilla9 ай бұрын
I’m actually so sad Zach took the septum out. I think it looked great on him 😥 Also, as someone with a lot of metal in their face. PLEASE go to actual piercing shops/tattoo shops. The guns force the stud through and the stud is blunt which can cause a lot of damage and a higher risk of infection. Hollow point needles are sharp enough to enter the skin and tissue without ripping the area around the new hole. Also, actual shops require the piercers to have blood borne pathogen certifications and months of training while the places with guns don’t and only train for two weeks. Which is why Zach’s ear was pierced so low.

Chemist here (and also someone who's ♿️ and has to worry about lots of rxns to stuff)----I agree with this!! I have like, 5 tattoos & spend a majority of my time talking to my artists about things like their training, differences between state requirements for bloodborn pathogen training & apprenticeships (or even tattoo school altogether). What I've heard is places like Oregon have the highest requirements for safety, especially when it comes to making sure people are trained in pathogens. Also, when it comes to things like tattoos, some pigments have different components that people will have more or less reactions to (a whole other side tangent about why some of us disabled folks do linework & shading only). My main point: DO YOUR HOMEWORK, and please don't be scared of tattoo shops! Some may be more "scary" but honestly, some are whimsical, magical foresty places---others may have an entirely different vibe! I PROMISE they're not all scary, just find some that are women/femme-owned, or are 🏳️🌈-owned. Those are a lot different vibes! Source: a friend literally owns their own shop in PDX (Hedgewitch Tattoo, one of the magical witchy shops I mentioned)

@@Anna-B A piercing gun hurts more than a needle. A piecing gun is not sterile. A piercing gun causes trauma, crushing its way through what ever body part you pierce. A piercing gun piercing takes longer to heal. Going to a good piercing studio is the best. The needle cuts a hole. It is sterile. The piercing heals faster. It is actually less painful. You get a better jewellery that makes room for the swelling that will happen. It is fast. The first 4 pairs of ear piercings I had was made with a gun, the following 24 (12 pairs) have been done with a needle. It is a lot better for the body. Less risk of infection, a lot less risk.

I'm amazed that I never had an issue with Claire's. I got my ears pierced at Claire's when I was 7 and then my second set at the Icing when I was 14. They both healed quickly and I had no infection or even a hint of an infection. I'm guessing that was because kids heal more quickly than adults, but if I ever have a kid, their piercings will come from a professional piercer.

NEVER get your ears pierced at Claires!! As a kid, BOTH studs sunk INSIDE my ear lobe and I had to get them surgically removed. The healing time is practically doubled too because there is more chance for scarring and Zach is Ashkenazi so we are more prone to keyloid scarring so our scars puff up as they heal.

I am SO glad to see all the comments about seeing a professionally trained piercer for ANY of your piercing needs, including your child’s ear piercing. It didn’t use to be like that. My husband tattoos& pierces since two decades and if it’s a child, requires the child to come into the shop the day before the piercing to meet them, see how they react and if they actually want their ear pierced. He’s sent some away when he thought they aren’t quite ready. Tattoo shops aren’t scary if you take your time to look around to see what’s in your area. A podcast interview or something with a professional piercer next would be a cool follow-up. Or just spending the day with a piercer at a shop?

Pisses me off that tattoo places are also the only ones in my area that require the kid to be old enough to have some degree of autonomy, while the chains are all like: not before 4 months.
@ishathakor9 ай бұрын
@@itsnotme6869 well tattoo and piercing professionals understand that even earlobe piercings for a little kid whose culture traditionally does them is still a body modification that the kid should consent to. earlobe piercings are fine with young kids like 6/7 (generally the ages i've seen where professional piercers will start doing them for kids) because they're so common and relatively easy to heal that it's not a huge decision that will change your life (vs cartilage or eyebrow piercings or whatever). but even earlobe piercings require a couple of weeks of healing time, during which realistically the kids SHOULD understand what that means and how to treat their piercings. also there's the matter of babies just being really small. everyone i know who got their ears pierced when they were too young to remember has wonky crooked piercings that are off-center because even if it's centered on an infant's ears, you have no idea how they're going to grow and adjust to the piercing. on the other hand if a kid is a bit older, you can be fairly sure that if it's centered at like age 7 then it's going to be centered when they grow up too. or at least close enough to the center that ripping through the earlobe isn't a concern.

Kudos for ending the episode in a professional setting. I've been told by a piercer that those guns can break cartilage, though the lobes shouldn't be too bad. I had to get my ears repierced a total of 3 times (four times overall). The first 3 were with piercing guns. I don't know if the first was because of the gun because that was how I found out I am very allergic to nickel. But the next 2 times closed up or became so bad that I had to let them close up to actually recover. The last time I went to a piercing shop and got it done properly and I haven't had any issues at all. Piercing guns are so awful
@zerocraic39669 ай бұрын
This intense anti piercing gun sentiment for lobes especially seems so manufactured. I had 3 from guns and no issues. Dont know anybody in 30 years whose lobes were fucked from a gun. It seems like the new paper straw or “betterhelp=evil” despite lack of personal experience
