That's funny.... in the mid90's I lost my DL & bought a TOMOS 50cc moped. Mind you while it had pedals it also had a fairing with a sleek finish which made it look like a small motorcycle. It had 20 inch tires, front -n- back which gives you great control but the reason for a 50cc bike is that in most States you can ride this w/o any type of DL or insurance. Mine got 115 miles to a gallon of gas & had an automatic oil injection system & oil tank that mixed the fuel for me. I added am aftermarket muffler & electronic to change how fast she ran & I could do about 42mph..... Yes, I got stopped a few times, never ticketed. Be safe out there !

Yup, in my state, registration is required regardless of the CC of the moped, as well as a moped license, but you need a motorcycle endorsement to ride anything above 50cc. However, insurance isn't required, unless it's over 50cc, since it's classified as a motorcycle.

Cops who come from out of state should at least go through an entire training course and learn the new laws of the area they are serving though.

Mine is larger framed with 13" wheels, longer seat, just heavier looking and acting. Unmistakably a motor scooter or even could be taken at a glance as a small motor cycle. Both are 50cc , both have moped plates. Same as you, no pedals.. Ma goes just by engine size. By the way, that Peace Sports is zippy. While I'm 6ft 2 and over 230lb, I don't fit it so well, it is a fun scooter. I had to de restrict mine to keep up with it.. My model is also offered in a 150cc though.

I have ridden thousands of miles on 65 mph roads on a 50cc scooter. I ride on the shoulder, just like bicyclists do. I wear a white helmet and an orange road construction vest. A 50cc scooter requires a motorcycle license, registration, plate, and insurance in my state. I also ride old school 50cc pedal mopeds. While they only require a drivers license (IF they have functional pedals, and the MVD will make sure of that) they must still be registered, plated, and insured. If they do have functional pedals, you get a special moped plate.

Depends on where you live.. in Illinois and Iowa, you need a licence (L in Illinois, not sure in Iowa) and Iowa 15 + can ride a49cc with a "moped" tag. And moped licence (that just what they say. You need to check the legal requirements in your state. ) Illinois, you must have an L endorsement up to 150cc M above that. NOT THAT YOU ARE LIKELY TO BE TAKING LONG TRIPS ON A49CC SCOOTER! But. If you are in another state that has different laws, you COULD get some hassles! I personally like 49cc scooters. Though I don't have one at present. (I have a250) and know of a few people who have ridden extensively in other states and countries. IT PAYS TO KNOW THE APPLICABLE LAWS! The cop sounded fairly easy from what I heard.

​@grazz7865 that's what I got and a big bore carburetor and the racing cdi stuff even though it's mostly a gimmick but does give it a different sound but the cdi looks cool with the red light lighting up. My moped has 12in tires on it for a 50cc. It hits almost 50mph. I've hit 46 max so far even going up hill with it bored out don't slow down to much. It's a Vitacci Challenger mfg. Jan 2024. I love it.

I got pulled over 4 times last summer and I didn't have a moped license which I found out here you do no matter if it's 50cc etc and I didn't have the sticker on the back. i have a honda trail 125 and a cop showed up at my house saying he got a call saying i was running 80 mph on my road. i ask him if he rides motorcycles. he said yes. and i told him to lock his car and get on it and ride it around and if he can hit 60 i will pay triple of what the 80 mph ticket would be. he laughed and said its ok. he has one and just wanted to know what i did to it if it does run 80 so he could do it to his. i told him i wish. but plan on doing upgrades to it soon and if he helps at all i will let him know. now we ride together all the time. but here in Texas 49 cc or less your not suppose to have to have any of that crap. but some counties want to fight you on it so i got it all anyways. just to save in fighting with cops that dont know the law. insurance added to my other bikes is less than a dollar a month. inspection is 25 cents. and tags are less than $20. so i just do it.

The cop most certainly WAS aware about the scooters....it was a test and he illegally pulled you over. In order to see if the scooter was a 49cc, he had to come up with some bs reason and he feigned ignorance. However, the cop asked if it "was a 50cc EXACTLY" This means, he wanted to see proof it was 49cc or else he would have "checked with sarge", but it's 50cc and above, so that's no insurance, no licence, all arrestable. The only way the cop was able to see if he could arrest you/fine you, was to get you off the bike and to find the label, which you did. Someone on one of these scooter video comment sections had a friend in an accident who was on 50cc, NOT the 49cc, so they threw the book at him, and that's what this crooked, NY ex cop was trying to do. Too bad he's an alcoholic cop who got busted for his DUI then canned.

Illegal stop, ask why he pulled you over, if no crime or infraction was committed you are free to go, his curiosity is none of your concern. In PA it must be registered and you must carry insurance with a valid driver's license for anything under 50cc, Motorcycle license is required for anything over 50cc.

Taking a 50cc scooter on a highway or exceeding 30mph are all traffic violations on 50cc scooter. With Amsoil synthetic 4 stroke scooter oil, many 50cc can do sbout 40mph. Disabling the speed limiter on the CDI computer will increase the top speed. On the CVT, removing the limiter gear will increase the top speed as well. A more complicated way to increase the top speed is an engine internal pressure purge valve. The Honda clone GY6 engines tend to lose horsepower as they run over a few minutes because internal pressure builds. A dynamo will show that horsepower decrease as the engine internal pressure builds. - But, taking a 50cc on the highway or exceeding 30mph will almost certainly get a rider a ticket as will not wearing a helmet.

The Missouri law that demands a driver's license is also against the Americans with disabilities act which is Federal law stating that any disabled person can use a vehicle which enables them to commute distances (within city speed limits, and using byroads to avoid faster traffic areas) that federal law supersedes any state or local laws, and the driver doesn't need to prove their disability (or disclose it) many attorneys from out of state would represent that case.

State of Missouri says nothing but a basic drivers license for under 50cc. This is actually 49cc. I had to clarify that to him because everyone just calls them 50cc. Now different cities and countys can have their own regulations but for my town, it’s just the drivers license.

Different laws in different states. Where I’m at, only a basic drivers license for 50cc. There are local restrictions in Missouri depending on where you live. Same with other states. But my town, just a drivers license. Nothing else.

I am a person with a clean record and nothing to hide therefore this is the quickest way out. I don’t have 30 mins to an hour standing around arguing and possibly not being able to go home over some BS. Comply and go home. Besides, this cop ended up getting pulled over and arrested for DWI last week and lost his job on the spot. He got his.
