In today's video I received special permission to photograph the ALMA Observatory in the Atacama Desert, Chile. The skies here are some of the darkest in the world but at 5000m altitude, it can be quite challenging to work. In my short time on the plateau I managed to capture multiple Milky Way panoramas, the Magellanic Clouds, the Gum Nebula and star trails.

This showed up in my feed today. Alyn's videos were a great source of learning when I got into astrophotography a few years ago and continue to be. I think though, that the big lesson for me in this video is to treat every moment like it might be your last chance, "for a very long time". Rest in peace Alyn and thanks for your creativity, teaching, and inspiration.

Hearing you say ‘it’ll be a long time till I get to photograph the southern hemisphere again’ and you passing away, shows how you should enjoy every moment like it’s your last. R.I.P buddy 🌌

I've been missing these adventure vlogs so much man! What a treat this one was 😀. Such a stunning location. Really respect the speed you work at under time pressure at 5000m altitude while also making a vlog and trying to be sociable with the people around you 😅. Love the airglow tbh, makes it extra unique.

I think all of your shots are amazing. You remind of my son and his artistry. If it's not perfect he doesn't like it, while I am looking at the same creation he made with my jaw on the floor. Your photography is out of this world. Thank you and stay well.

Omg what a sky! And imagine being surrounded by large telescopes while shooting ^_^ Thanks for another wonderful video, Alyn. And I think I'm on Team Pro-airglow, it looks kinda surreal and adds in some cold contrasts to the warmer colours of the Ha in the nebulae - also congratz on the jaw dropping star trail image! Normally I am not that much into star trails since I find they look too artificial in most images, but this one made me say WOW out loud while watching the video. Take care, looking forward to more adventures ^_^

Fantastic experience for you. Well done. All the images were great. I'm sure this will be an experience you will long remember. The highest I have ever b been is 4400 meters but that was 49 years ago without a camera. I am hoping for a trip to the Aquarius plateau one of these days at 3300 meters for a chance at either meteors, Milky Way, or night time thunderstorms in the distance. What a great experience for you.

Hi Alyn. Nice to everyone understands the dedication, money, time, effort, planning and skill is needed for „a handfull photos“. I do - very much! This is so amazing, thanks for sharing. Im also wondering why you didn’t „stretch“ your content. Other youtubers would have dond this in a series of videos: 1 Planning and the journey, 2 load-out of gear used, 3 taking pictures of night one, 4 taking pictures of night 2, 5 editing the photos… I would certainly watch all of it in length. But nit any youtuber is alike. I wouldn’t mind watching more, slower and more detailed content, if you habe these rare photo expeditions.

very jealous of a Bortle 1!!!!! one day...... you did well to get minimal star trials with a 1min exposure, I'd personally filter out the green of the air-glow with a minor white-balance adjustment in Lightroom, as it reeks of artificial light - however it's probably too tempting to remove the orange as well and it starts looking a little bit too contrived - maybe send me a RAW and I'll give it a go ;) hahahhaa
