EVERYONE please like so she sees! The muscle aches, weakness and fatigue is probably from the iron infusions! I commented this on the last vlog, I really hope you see this. It’s called the “iron flu”. It’s so normal and it’s a sign your bone marrow is using the iron to make new RBCs!! Common side effects are muscle aches and weakness and bad fatigue. Also common are headaches and brown urine (that one freaked me out and I wish I had a warning lol! But your kidneys process the iron and you pee the excess out) I’ve had over 50 iron infusions and I got the symptoms almost every time. Lots of fluids help the symptoms but luckily they usually only last a couple days after the iron:)

@@beanythompson1460 it could be a pregnancy thing too, of course! But no one told me about the side effects after my first infusion and I was practically bed ridden the first time. I run a support group for iron deficiency anemia now and I have so many people asking about their symptoms post infusion bc their nurse or doctor didn’t mention it. It really feels like the flu for a couple days! When Colleen mentioned those symptoms and how it was new for her and not what she’d experienced before with pregnancy i figured it was likely the iron!

@@memfissrivera2831 she said her nurse came and gave her hydration and iron. I know she referred to it as supplements but I’m pretty positive she meant infusions bc a nurse doesn’t have to administer iron supps, those are just over the counter pills:)

@@ChoochooseU I suffered from severe anemia for years. It’s not nonsense. I run an IDA support group exactly for this reason. Post infusion iron flu is VERY common. And it can be administered in home under the care of a nurse, of course the nurse would have the medications to stop a reaction. And Colleen would already have had a severe reaction the first time she got the infusion if she was going to react. any doctor can order IV iron - doesn’t have to be an oncologist:)

Some meal ideas: - High-protein pasta (eg “Tolerant Organic red lentil rotini”, “Explore Cuisine organic edamame spaghetti”) with tomato sauce or pesto, vegetables, whatever toppings you like - Lettuce wraps (e.g. turkey or another deli meat - or even a burger!, cheese, tomatoes, pickles, mustard or mayo, all wrapped in lettuce) - Quesadillas using grain-free tortillas (e.g. “Siete chickpea flour grain-free tortillas”) - personally I like black beans, cheese, sautéed spinach and onions, guacamole, salsa, and sour cream as my filling - Baked tofu and broccoli (I use soy sauce, sesame oil, and olive oil as a marinade) with peanut sauce to dip in Some snack ideas: - Celery or carrots with hummus - Kale chips (not very filling, but at least they’re crunchy!) - Trail mix (you may want to get one that doesn’t have dried fruit or chocolate, and then add in just a bit of those yourself, so that you can keep the sugar low) - Yogurt - Smoothies - I bet you can find some protein powder at Whole Foods that has little or no sugar. Worth a check! - Chia seed pudding - it’s easy to make, you can do it with just milk and chia seeds, flavor with a little bit of vanilla and honey, and top with fruit. Chia seeds are very high in protein so you should be able to have the fruit/honey alongside without raising your blood sugar much. (I’m not a doctor!) You may not like the texture though. Note: You may need to be watchful of beans, not just grains and fruit. I’m not sure since I don’t have diabetes, just other health issues that affect what I eat, so please double check with an expert on what is ok for you. Also, the specific products I mentioned above are all things I’ve found at Whole Foods. They’re a bit pricey, but they may help you feel like you’re eating more filling, “normal”foods! Btw, DO NOT feel bad about having trouble with adjusting your diet or figuring out what you can eat. It can be so difficult!! List out some ideas you find in the comments or online that sound good to you, and maybe even write out a meal & snack plan for the week (you can always adjust it when something does or doesn’t sound appealing to you in the moment!).

There are carb free substitutes for a lot of food! They’re “carb-free” tortillas that are sold at almost all grocery stores. You can make tacos with high protein 90% 10% hamburger meat. Cauliflower rice is also a good option to fill up on and you can really make it to taste. It takes like what you season it with. Nuts can be good snack option, like almonds. Berries like raspberries, blueberries and strawberry’s are some low carb fruits. Green bell pepper are very low carb and are good as a filler on a plate. Best meal for me is a chicken quesadilla with the “carb free” tortilla and cheese with bell peppers on the side! Best of luck !!

Love this, hope she sees it. Was going to recommend a lot of the same stuff. Also chickpeas are a great addition for some people. Others don't do as well on them, some swear by them. They can be very filling. You can put them on salads, in burritos (Mediterranean burritos are so good!), and hummus is a great snack! You can also buy them dried/puffed/roasted with seasoning for a great and easy snack that will give you the crunch you love! And they make chickpea pasta that's actually pretty good, too! Adding on that peanut butter is a huge help in getting calories, maintaining blood sugar, and feeling fuller! Just try to stick with the more natural stuff to stay away from the added sugar.

Sample of what I ate in a day- Breakfast- 2 eggs, 2 sausage patties, 35 calorie wheat toast with sugar free jelly. Snack- nature valley protein bar. Lunch- grilled chicken breast, roasted broccoli and a protein shake. Snack-mixed nuts and string cheese. Dinner- salmon with asparagus maybe with a piece of bread. Before bed snack- two good yogurt(2carbs), string cheese. I hope you see this and it helps. I could never do this diet for myself but the motivation is to keep my babies healthy.

I had gestational diabetes with my 4th pregnancy. My fitness pal is an app that can trac your carbs so you don’t eat too many, it can scan foods to check them too, it is soooo helpful. The dietitian with help big time to put your mind at ease. You will get the hang of eating differently, and the good news was I ended up gaining less weight that pregnancy than I would have otherwise because I was eating in a much healthier way. I had the best recovery. Also they never said I couldn’t have carbs, they just said the amounts that were ok for me to eat, like 1 slice of bread, or half an apple. There is some flexibility. Plus there are many “free foods” that you can eat as many as you want of, like most veggies. Some berries are lower in natural sugars so they are free to eat, and some veggies like corn and carrots are actually high in natural sugars. The app can tell you how many carbs are in everything. It’s so helpful. I just think this stuff is so interesting. 🤔

Hi Colleen! Having any kind of diabetes is so overwhelming and discouraging sometimes. I had GD with my son and I’m insulin resistant due to PCOS, and so these are just some ideas that have really helped me. First off, I know you love cookies! I found Monk fruit sweetener and you just use it like regular sugar with any of your recipes. Another dessert/snack is get a sugar free pudding mix (cheesecake is my favorite) and some heavy whipping cream, mix them together until it’s whipped and you have a great dip for strawberries, etc. There is protein pancake and waffle mix at Costco that is really yummy! Add some berries and your whipped treat and you have a really yummy breakfast Yorkshire pudding is my favorite alternative to rolls. It’s so yummy and I just make them in muffin tins. I love using them with a roast, or last night I used carna asada meat and it was SO good Chickpea pasta is a great alternative to regular pasta. My kids can’t tell a difference and I know you guys love a simple bowl of spaghetti. Make sure to add meat to your sauce, just to help with protein. There is also carb smart bread that we find at Costco, that also helps , that way you can make some sandwiches, French toast, etc. Those are just as couple staple ingredients that I carry in my house to help but the more you get used to having GD, the more you’ll realize that you have more options. There is sugar free ice cream, bbq sauce, low carb bread, and lots of other things. And if you decide if you need to splurge on a “treat” just make sure to have some protein by you to help with the carbs😊 You got this!!!! You are doing so good and I know it’s not easy. It’s so hard, so so hard, and it sucks lol but there are options that help it feel not so overwhelming

Hey girl! I had gestational diabetes twice and kept my numbers down both times with a diet change! I also noticed once I got the diet under control I felt less yucky! The biggest thing is SNACKS!!! You need to be eating something every 2ish hours! My favorite snack was turkey pepperoni and cheese! And then AFTER you eat your protein THEN do a "smart" carb! That would be a whole wheat something, like bread with seeds or something, or a Veggie of some type! Veggies are the best because they don't make you spike! It's more of a slow burn carb! Take out pasta and switch it with Cauliflower! Glucerna shakes are a life saver if you need something fast and I would usually pair that with some protein, like some jerky! But they're specifically made for diabetic people and I would usually drink them in the morning or at night if I was hungry before bed! Also! Have some peanut butter on hand at all times just in case your numbers dip! It really is the best because it is a protein and a smart carb! The beginning is the hardest. You have to figure out what is the best number for your body to be at, as well as how many carbs you can handle. Because you still have to have some! This isn't Keto. If you cut them out completely you will fall out.

Hey Colleen! I'm type one diabetic- yes, it can be hard to find easy snacks that don't raise your blood sugar too much. One easy option is nuts/seeds- I like snacking on sunflower seeds, toasted almonds, or cashews. My absolute favorite blood sugar friendly snack is edamame. You can buy them dry roasted, which takes no prep, or if you have a little more time steam some pods and eat with a little salt or condiment- I personally love it! As far as shakes, one that I love to make for dessert that has very little sugar is this: milk (I use almond milk but you can use whatever), a banana, unsweetened peanut butter, unsweetened cocoa powder, ice, and sometimes I add a few shakes of cinnamon powder if I'm in the mood for it. You can add a little stevia if you want it sweeter, but as long as the banana is nice and ripe it's usually sweet enough for me! If you're a fan of avocados they're also a good snack option as they have healthy fats that help you feel full without affecting your sugar much.

I can’t eat lots of carbs because of other health issues. It’s all about having a balanced diet not just cutting out. I eat lots of nuts as snacks. Also you can get protein power that tastes good but isn’t full of sugar to make your own shakes. Also apple and peanut butter is such a yummy and filling snack (but definitely not a meal). one thing I find very helpful is to season stuff different ways so it feels like I have more variety. You can make yourself a turkey sandwich as like a lunch. Also there are some carbs that don’t spike your blood sugar as much like sweet potatoes or quinoa that if you have with some solid protein (chicken, turkey, hotdogs, hamburgers, fish) to balance out.

Probably will get lost in the comments, but here it goes: I am not a gestational diabetes expert, but I do know a bit about type I & II diabetes. It’s not really about cutting carbs/ sugar out COMPLETELY. It’s about making balanced choices (ie if you have a roll with dinner, don’t have dessert, or if you want a Big Mac later, maybe skip the fries, etc ) but also they TYPE of carbs also make a difference. White/refined carbs will spike your blood sugar, but more complex carbs (think whole grains like whole wheat, beans, quinoa/brown rice) won’t spike your blood sugar that bad.

Breakfast was scrambled eggs on gluten free toast with salsa and avocado on it, lunch was always weird for me, and a good go to snack was a cut up apple with peanut butter and some “healthy” popcorn and maybe some nuts. You can still have like lettuce wrapped burgers and things, I could even do chicken parm if we made it thinly breaded and I had a smaller portion with just more sides that didn’t have carbs. Remember your body still needs carbs just don’t overdo it and check your numbers regularly and you’ll be okay. You got this!!

Avoid foods that are highly processed as it contains added sugars that will satiate your hunger short term which will make you more more hungry in the long run. Great option for snacks: • Granola and Greek Yogurt • Nuts • Dark chocolate

I’m sure there are plenty of snacks labeled “keto” at your nearby grocery store that would be great low carb, high protein options! Just be cautious of processed foods: try and maintain a lot of High Density Lipids (sometimes called healthy fats, such as olive oil, whole grains, fish, nuts, etc.) and try to minimize Low Density Lipids (too much is not good and can cause heart problems - examples are beef, margarine, fried food, and sometimes cheese). Of course, everything is totally fine in moderation or if balanced with foods to lower LDLs. I hope this helps and I know it might seem overwhelming, but it is good to know!

You CAN have some sugars and carbs, you just have to pair them with enough protein to balance them out. You could definitely do protein shakes. Eggs and toast. Spaghetti with meat sauce and low carb pasta. Sandwiches with enough meat/cheese to balance out the bread. I was even able to eat ice cream because it had enough protein to balance the sugar. Protein bars might be a good option. Or cheese and crackers. Nuts even.

Gestational diabetes is hard, especially when you feel like you have no idea what to do. I joined a Facebook group that gave me a ton of ideas. Also it helped me not feel so alone. I really like pure proteins shakes and bars because it’s quick to just grab. I also enjoy string cheese, slim Jim’s, summer sausage with cheese, veggie straws (when it’s time for a snack so I can have at least a serving of carbs, just need to count how many so you don’t get too much- I like the zesty ranch) Oh and I love cucumbers and ranch, that’s always a good choice. Salads are a great meal, I love to make a big big salad with a bunch of chicken so I get some protein. I have done well with chili, though not everyone does because of the beans. But for me it works, I like to top it with a bunch of shredded cheese and sour cream. Oh and you can try “two good” yogurt, those are good! Burgers also usually work for me, some people may need to take off one bun but I can usually get away with it. And honestly when all else fails, I can get away with a 10 piece chicken nugget from McDonald’s and sometimes it just needs to be that easy. Sorry this was all over the place- but the take away is, it’s all trial and error. Some people have luck with different foods that other people can’t touch. You just have to see what works for you but you will get the hang of it eventually 😊

Edit to add: MagicSpoon cereal is a really good high protein, low carb, easy breakfast/snack that is pretty filling! And I'd honestly look into Thrive market, cuz you can shop for that stuff by dietary restrictions so you can see everything they have that fits your diet and order it and have it shipped so you don't have to go to the store to stock your pantry with everything you need. And they have tons of snack options!!!! So glad you are getting a dietician! That's so helpful when trying to adjust your diet, especially with something so complex as sugars and carbs. I hope that the advice in the comments proves helpful until then. I feel like you feeling so poorly today may have to do with the diet change and the fact that you're feeling so hungry, so I really hope and pray they can get this sorted out quickly and get you feeling the best you can! Sending all my love your way 💙💙

My mom had gestational diabetes when she was pregnant with me, and you do not have to eliminate carbs! You just have to be careful how much you consume. Mediterranean food is the only “healthy” food I actually like. If you want to be fancy you could do like chicken or beef shawarma, but honestly falafel is sooo easy and yummy. Also don’t worry about actually making it the proper way - you’re not serving it to an actual Mediterranean person 😂 You can eat falafel plain or with hummus, tzatziki, tahini, cucumber, onions, tomatoes, etc. Honestly the Mediterraneans/Arabs really figured out how to make yummy healthy low-carb food, so just Google Mediterranean food and you’ll find tons of healthy and actually yummy recipes!!

And instead of making a wrap with the falafel, it could be eaten alongside fattoush or tabouleh. I love falafel. I need to eat it more often. In Liguria, they make savoury pancakes out of chickpea flour, called farinata. It's amazing. Tuscan-style beans, which is stewed cannellini beans in a tomato sauce, with sautéed onion & garlic, and seasoned with salt, pepper, fresh rosemary & fresh sage. In Greece, they make a dip out of yellow split peas. It's called fava & it's so very good. I also like to make a 5-bean chili, using black, red kidney, cannellini, pinto and chickpeas instead of meat. Then, there's onion, garlic, celery, carrots, bell peppers, zucchini and mushrooms to round it out. I also really like tofu recipes like this: kalynskitchen.com/baked-sesame-tofu-sticks/, which is similar to something I've had. Tofu is easily adaptable & can be quite delicious. It's also a fantastic source of protein.

My husband is diabetic and we have found so many ways to make his favorites low carb. One of our favorite new finds is Trader Joe's has these cauliflower breads and pizza crusts in the refrigerator section, we use the breads for sandwiches and burger buns. You can do a million things with cauliflower to replace. He also snacks on low-carb yogurts, there's a bunch of different brands of them now, and nuts are a great snack. There is also a brand called Birch Benders that makes low-carb cakes that you can microwave, they also make a cake mix (yellow and brownie are the best).

SNACK SUGGESTIONS!!! Beanitos (Chips made out of Beans, they have so many different flavors, some taste exactly like Doritos, or even better) Hippeas (chickpea puff chips, come in many different flavors! Similar to the beanitos) Quesadillas with Corn Tortillas (Corn Tortillas have less carbs than flour, you can also make low sugar sweet tortillas with dark chocolate spread and almond butter!) Hummus! (A Dip for the bean chips! And a great dairy dip alternative) Beef Jerky (good source of protein but feels more like a snack rather than trying to eat hunks of meat all the time to fill you up lol) Cauliflower rice & Zucchini noodles (doctor them up with lots of yummy sauces and ingredients just as you would with rice or noodles! ) Baking with Almond Four and Coconut Sugar (My personal fav alternatives for any sort of baking!) Hope this helps! I’m sugar intolerant which makes my tummy sensitive to high carb and high sugar foods. These were my go-tos when I had GD (although by the end I’d gotten so sick of the whole ordeal that I started mainly just eating Magic Spoon cereal and keto pancakes). You do sometimes need to double or triple your portion size to fill up. - a sliced apple with a big glob of unsweetened peanut butter for dipping - fresh mozzarella cheese drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar on wheat thins, - a toasted english muffin with unsweetened peanut butter and sugar-free jam/marmalade, - plain Greek yogurt with chia seeds and berries mixed in As others have said, any snack food marketed for keto should work fine.

Cubed cheese & apples are a great snack for me and trail mix without m&ms are good. Dark chocolate has much lower carbs than milk chocolate so if you want chocolate covered strawberries, try some dark instead. For low carb meals, try something like lettuce tacos or chicken and vegetable stir fry with quinoa. Quinoa is similar to rice but is lower in carbs. It can be incredibly frustrating sometimes but you got this Colleen! You are strong and your babies are going to be healthy and strong too! I’m supporting you all the way 💪🏼💕

This sounds weird, but for me personally when I would have a slice of pizza (like from the shop) my number would be high, but if I had that same huge slice of pizza with a side salad my numbers would be perfect. You learn what you can “get away with” it’s a lot of trial and error at first. Sometimes you eat things that are perfect and it spikes. Don’t beat yourself up. Keep a food journal. Its so helpful! I also was able to eat lots of chipotle bowls, if you’re into that. (For me that was a huge bonus at the end)

I struggled with gestational diabetes, being my biggest craving was hot chocolate. I was put on a diet where I had to eat every hour, just small portions. My favourite things that actually filled me up was scrambled eggs with cheese and salsa, plain yogurt with berries and granola and also incorporated a lot of protein shakes to keep from feeling hungry. After a while of sugarless torture I also found a diabetes friendly low carb chocolate chip cookie recipe, which helped a lot! The fruit salads you love should be fine just make sure it's mostly berries, things like bananas are really high in carbs. Also, whole wheat tostidos the plain ones with salsa is a great low carb snack! Good luck, you got this ❤️

I had it with my last pregnancy and I cried everyday, I craved donuts and the thought of not being able to eat one or a box a day killed me. I wasn't over weight, nor did I have it with the past two pregnancy so it caught me by surprise. NUMBER ONE RULE which my doctor told me is, Do not try to cut carbs completely because you have gestational diabetes. Your body needs them, and you’ll feel too deprived without them. I did eat carbs every so often. The best advice I can give you is that they have lots of different meals and recipes, one for peanut butter banana smoothie. You will get through this, it sucks I know how much it sucks but it wouldn't last forever.

There's lots of low carbs substitutes ass well. There's these smoothies that are probably 8 carbs, but they don't taste very good tbh. But I would add whipped cream, which is barely any carbs.

Try Premier protein shakes. Heat the chocolate one for hot chocolate...really good with whipped cream or just adding whipping cream

Natural peanut butter with dates is amazing and very filling. Hummus with apples, again very filling. Bake cheddar cheese in the oven for chips like feeling. Very yummy.

A snack I recommend are dry apples, they basically are apples sliced thinly with some cinnamon, you place them in a tray, then in the oven for 30 minutes aprox. and then flip them and they are like apple chips, they are soooo good and healthy! you can eat plenty of them until you are full hahha lol hope it helps

Apples are high in fructose. Yes it’s a natural sugar, but it will still spike her Glucose.

Try some air popped popcorn as a quick snack, you can get bags of it from the grocery store. It's nice and quick and yummy 💕

I wonder if Colleen forgot this, but I actually remember a video last year where she's in the car with Erik, I believe, and she said she got tested for Covid, and even talked about how it was the one that went all the way back - she even mentioned the sneezing! I don't know how she could forget an experience like that lol but this definitely isn't the first time she's been tested. Not a big deal or anything, just funny that she'd forget something like that. I know I couldn't - but Covid tests give me hella anxiety

If she did forget it wouldn’t surprise me lol. She’s a wife, mom, and is pregnant with twins.

I was thinking the same thing... she also used to say that everyone was tested, masked, and social distanced when her family first started seeing each other again.

No honey. One of the worst things for diabetics. Maybe different for gestational diabetics, that I don't know.

Look at the paleo diet. High protein. Lower on the carbs.

@@rachelallison6651 you could do cauliflower rice as a healthy alternative. I personally just like it with a little plain rice. My dad is a diabetic and most things are fine in moderation. But everyone's body is different and GD is different from regular diabetes, I'm no health food expert lol
