I looked up DJI pocket. Does this facilitate recording surreptitiously or are you just open about it.

It can in theory, but I am allowed to record where I play. The reasons I like it: 1) it's small and easy to hold, 2) it has a gimbal so you can easily scroll the camera up for slots that are tall, 3) you can use memory cards unlike the iPhone, which is important because I usually record 200GB each trip.
