Facts! To me SU sound the exact same with the exception of their trumpets. They tubas been garbage….Now on the other hand The Boom just offered a better presentation this season and with song selection being on point now it makes a huge huge difference 🤷🏽‍♂️ Being a band director is like having the combined skill set of a music producer and a DJ. If you Dont have the skill set the results will show up in your program and right now Dr. Little and his leadership got that in the bag over other programs’ leadership.

JSU & Southern are my top 2 favorite bands. However, I was so disappointed with Southern at the 2 boombox classics this year. What in the name of all that is real is going on with Southern this year? I thought that since they wanted a rematch, they had gotten it together but unfortunately not. Hope it gets better next year.

SU was too big for their style (power). Arrangements included so many parts that sometimes the arrangements lost clarity and sounded muddled. Some great arrangements none the less. And the field shows were on point this season. Jackson's arrangements were different this year. Normally, they would prominently showcase the Dog Team. This year, they brought the upper brass and woodwinds along for the fight. The difference was very noticeable.

There are a lot of categories when it comes to scoring bands. Bands can't be judged by volume and noise and hype only. A lot of your so-called best bands don't have articulation, balance, dynamics, musicality, originality, arrangement, etc.

Bandhead you failed to include Florida A&M University Marching "100" and Bethune Cookman University bands in your list because you don't like their Symphonic/Marching Sound. This style is highly accepted in music education nationally and serves as a great fundamental concept in teaching our secondary students in preparation for District, State, and National Assessments. These students also watch your videos and wonder how you came up with your subjective assessment in Music, Marching, and General Effect in performance. But, I understand the Band Politics in this area of the country and their expectations of YOU.

You're entitled to your opinion but it's the not so subtle attempt to belittle bands like SU and JSU that annoys me. These kids work hard and both bands recruit good musicians from a wide swath of not only the south but the country. They are capable of playing marches, chorales, funk, blues, jazz, traditional tunes, gospel and every other genre. Those 2 bands in particular are not meac/FAMU/hubba doc influenced and that's ok! These 2 bands and the smaller bands they influence not to leave out Grambling in it's heyday are new Orleans and jazz influenced. They have a unique style. The symphonic sound of a FAMU or BCU is great. KB has mentioned NCA&T several times. Don't complain about respect and try to disrespect SWAC style at the same time. We see you 👀

Hey, Kb hru, we know our swac bands are killing the game. However, i feel that you show much favoritism to that conference. It seems like you dont recognize the talent and skill 8t takes to direct and write for a smaller band. In the video, you gave the most improved to bama state, and i am loving their improvements. However, they have been coming up for years. If you see albany State University mrsb last year compared to this year, i don't see how you would not give most improved to them. Let's also not leave out the fact that the meac and former meac bands that hold to the traditional style but are forces to be reckoned with keep getting overlooked as well, etc. NCAT.

Tennessee State isn’t in the SWAC and continues to rank on lists, break barriers and gain attention. And they don’t even play a lot of HBCU’s. You have to make your mark where you are. I think NCAT and NSU as well as Langston have done that. You have to attend the BOTB’s and you have to have an aggressive yet consistent social media team to gain attention and keep attention. Most MEAC school don’t do that. Notice I said most!!!!! MEAC school have some of the best homecoming’s but if you didn’t attend the institution or are from that area no one else would know about it. 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️. NC and VA are like pocket dimensions. Only ppl from there or have lived/moved there know what it gives. The epicenter of HBCU is in the Deep South and the gulf coast…you can’t get around it man. If y’all ain’t taking the extra time to travel to these places OUTSIDE of your weekly games you’re going to remain in a pocket dimension. There are several schools that take the trips and make the efforts to battle in these areas to stay on the map. Mardi Gras is another networking and recruiting juggernaut. You rarely see MEAC schools there and the ones that do make it don’t take the opportunity to make a splash. Blame your institutions not the opinion

KB you must be blind. TSU Ocean of Soul should be 2nd on your list. They beat Southern in the stands and the field. You can't hold one disappointing performance in the 5th quarter against Jackson State against them for the entire season. Also, their halftime performance matched JSU. I will say it again Southern and Alabama State were not better than TSU this year. You need to review all the performances from the beginning of the season!

I think it's common knowledge that NSU or NCAT can't hang with the TOP 5 SWAC bands in the stands. The field is a different story. NCAT has always been one of my favorites but that battle against Norfolk wasn't it. Norfolk's battle against TSU wasn't it. So they are definitely 5 and 6 in my top bands this year.

I noticed you kept mentioning "playing in the stands". The Band of The Year rankings were never ranked based on stand music, it was ranked off field shows. Therefore, in my opinion, your TOP 5 should've been ranked based off field shows and not stands. Also, all your chosen bands were nearly SWAC style bands. Meaning it doesn't seem like you're ranking based on musicality, it seemed like you're ranking bands that can play loud NOTE: These are my opinions!
