Hi Dr Matthew, I’m a new subscriber to your KZbin channel. Previously I watched one video from you about being a emergency doctor in the UK, and now this is the second video that I watched. I agree with your statement that life is not a race and everyone has their own path. I took a gap year during studying medicine due to my health condition. Next year I will be an intern doctor (hopefully). Best wishes for you.

Really good to hear from you and thanks for sharing your own journey. Medicine is certainly not a race, and if anything we should be takign the time out to work on things that are important to ourselves. Best of luck to you for your intern year :)

Fair play to you Matthew on sharing your journey. Kudos to you also for saying life is not a race. Wishing you all the best in your journey brother. God bless. P. S When you said RuneScape I chuckled that’s literally what my childhood also consisted of 😂

I’m 14 and a freshman in high school. I want to go to a specialty math and science school and eventually become a medical examiner.

Thanks Fatima! I grew up speaking English as well alongside Chinese so I feel comfortable speaking it :) Practice is the key - don't be afraid to have more conversations in English and you'll eventually be more fluent 😊

Can you still become a GP or consultant without an intercalated degree and do you only need this if you want to go into research/academics in the future?

I’m currently in yr13... please give some advice on interview prep 🙂
@mattbklee4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cathy! My main pieces of advice would be to prepare adequately by researching your med school, the style of interview and common questions. Check if it's MMI vs. panel and try adapt your planning for that. Would it be helpful if I made a video on preparing for med school interviews?

Awesome video! Do you have any tips for finals?! In 2 months time yikes! Bristol med student too :)
@mattbklee4 жыл бұрын
Hey Lucy, so happy to see another from Bristol here 😊 Absolutely, finals can be terrifying because there's so much content to study. The most valuable resources for me were questionbanks like passmedicine/pastest, and online resources! What I did was break them down into specialties, learn different aspects of the condition, test myself on a questionbank, and summarise by making clear concise notes to look back on. I'm a firm believer of the active recall technique as well and used Anki for flashcards which really helped me for finals, and in my recent MRCP exam which has even more content 😵 I also used Alastair Scott's notes (not sure if those are still flying around the uni). Would a video on how to study for finals be helpful? Was considering making one!

One thing that annoys me here is, Hong Kongers should NOT have to be sponsored to live and work here in the UK. Especially medical professionals. I'm so disappointed with the way the UK handles HK. But overall it's amazing hearing your story and how you manage to get to where you are. 22 is very young to have achieved so much. I'm 27 and I now feel very old. The only thing I save it IT equipment 🤣
@mattbklee3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ryan, there are definitely difficult points but overall it's a pleasure to be able to work here! I'm still early on my journey in life and hoping to see where else it can take me. Also learning coding myself so increasingly appreciating the world of IT!
