I had a random plant come up in one of my raised beds and had no idea what it was. So I used my plant ID app, and found it was a peanut plant! I couldn't figure it out, as I've never planted peanuts, but then I realized, I give whole peanuts in the shells to the birds and squirrels, so I assume a squirrel must have done some gardening for me. I'm looking forward to see what I get from my one little plant. Haha! I'm pretty sure it won't be as pretty as yours. I'm also in NC, in Chapel Hill and it had never occurred to me to try and grow them.
@baneverything55803 ай бұрын
I planted a few from bird seed that were in the shell and they sprouted so I got all of them out of the bag of seeds to grow next year. We used to grow several hundred peanut plants each year to make canned boiled peanuts.

Now I really want to experiment with peanuts in my garden. Just the idea of making the worlds best PB&J sandwich on homemade sourdough, with my homemade jam and PB just sounds delightful. I have a small garden so it would probably only be enough for a couple sandwiches. But my garden is more for fun & experimentation than high production.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am married to the son of a peanut farmer so it brought back a lot of memories of us hauling p-nuts to the dryers after picking. As for the watering of the plants, my father-in-law always yielded more p-nuts per acre on the irrigated land. I really enjoyed your video. Keep up the excellent work!

New to your channel! Loved this video and your passion and excitement! We bought a small peanut plant at the greenhouse this year and I said to my husband "let's try it just for fun to see if we get anything!". I actually had no idea how peanuts grew - I don't know how I thought I was going to know when they were ready - but the other day I was weeding near the plant and when I pulled the weed I found a peanut!! lol I was so excited I practically ran inside - when I came in our daughter was like what are you smiling about and I said "we have peanuts!". We had 2 - 2!! lol We all went back out into the garden to pick them haha But like you said, it's amazing to see what we can grow on our own - we did so much jam and spaghetti sauce this year from our garden - it's been fun and delicious to cook and can our garden harvests! I'm picking fresh basil off the stems as I watch this video to make pesto. Looking forward to more of your videos!

Thank you so much! You could definitely grow them in 7a. You may need to start them indoors first though just to get a little bit of a head start. But definitely experiment with that! And thank you, they’re mostly press ons! I love wearing them but I also pretty much have to to protect my real nails. I have Hashimotos and it makes my real nails so thin and brittle so the press ons give them a barrier especially when I’m gardening! Plus, they’re just fun 💅🏼

Above ground beds need irrigation because that are above ground. I stopped buying consumer gardening gear and switched to in ground gardening with tree trimming company wood chip mulch as a cover on top of the ground preventing sun from striking and drying out my ground. Even in stage D4 drought in Texas I never watered the in ground garden and it flourished. Lots of watermelons and cantaloupe melons. If that didn't teach me a life long lesson I don't know what have.

@meggrowsplants7 ай бұрын
Honestly that makes so much more sense! I’ve heard that it is like that in other languages as well. Someone told me that in Danish it means “ground nut”. Would take away a lot of the confusion lol
@pd85597 ай бұрын
@@meggrowsplantsa lot of our older language made more literal sense. Modern English has lost so many old words and borrowed so many new words we lose the literal easy meanings, for example Middle English sykhous, and similar forms in other Scandinavian and Germanic languages is Sick House, where you go when you are sick. After the French invaded England a lot of French loan words came in. “Ospital”, being Old French is the basis for Hospital today.

@meggrowsplants11 ай бұрын
Hi there!! Thank you! You can grow them in grow bags, but you’re right. You may not get a ton of peanuts. Usually each plant produces 10-20 peanuts in my experience. And you could get away with maybe planting 2-3 plants in a 20 gallon grow bag. As far as when you plant, what zone are you in? You should plant after the last frost and the soil is warm!

Salted peanut salted boiled peanuts oh they are so good are used to get them every time I go to Florida until I realized I have a peanut allergy as an adult. I know that I didn’t have it so much as a kid and now I can’t have salt so that’s a double whammy.😢 But I wanna grow to make peanut butter for my dog treats . Yeah, the black walnuts are the walnuts. I have a couple of those trees in my yard. Also, I’m allergic to the walnuts also😢 So you have to have gardens with certain fruits and vegetables like 20 at least 20 feet from the walnut tree if you’re planning them underground if you’re going to plant them anywhere near a tree, it has to be one none of the rain from the leaves or none of the leaves can blow into the garden because the jug loan will kill some certainfruits and vegetables whammy for my yard😢 I used to work in the peanut fields back in the early 70s in Florida😊
