I remember that there seemed to be a movie filmed there, and the protagonist climbed up to find that the vines on it could eat people! Naick's cooking skills are really amazing, every time watching him cook is like watching a wonderful art performance! I think the type of rock matters too. The one you had looked really porous so maybe wasn't holding heat well. A slate type would probably work better.

I'm a hobby chef as well, but don't eat red meat anymore. If memory serves me, to cook a massive steak on a rock, the rock itself has to be in the fire/embers for quite awhile. I would have seared the steak and then put it on the rock. From a non meat eater, it looked awesome.
